First let me introduce myself, I am the daughter of Arnold M Taube who created the 44 Taube Family Trees document, older sister of TaubeArn on this site, and a great granddaughter of Gustav Taube, the younger brother of David Taube….

I grew up in Geneseo IL, but have not lived there since 1969. I hope that my brother shared digital records and photos with you and would appreciate learning of any photos that now may be in your possession as my brother and I are not close. My husband and I took a trip to Poland last October and toured the area around Sienno & Parlin where Gustav & David grew up and where Gustav lived before immigrating to the USA in 1885. I would be willing to share digital pixs of the area as well as impressions from that trip.

I am also interested in obtaining information concerning Gustav's & David's older brother, Frederick Ferdinand Taube. Oral history seems to indicate that he went to live in Saxony after the deaths of his parents and never reconnected with Gustav & David. However, I have discovered a man by the same name who later immigrated to America and ended up in Minnesota where he is buried.

Sorry that I did not discover this site two years ago….

Surnames: Nightingale, Taube
Hello TaubeArn,

I am related to Edward A. Nightingale and Anna Taube (great great grandparents) and I would be very interested in the family history and pictures that you mentioned in this email string.

Also, if you have an information regarding them prior to their arrival in the US it would particularly appreciated. I understand that they came over from Hamberg, on the S/S Herder, on 11 March 1875. I haven't had any luck finding them before that, or their family history prior to this date besides birth dates. I am going to Germany this summer and would love to visit the city that they came from.

My email address is anightingale@hotmail.com, thank you!
Amanda

Gerry, I'm sorry that I didn't discover this post sooner… I am a great granddaughter of Gustav Taube and grew up in Geneseo, IL which was the town that Gustav & his wife Wilhelmina immigrated to in 1885. Wilhelmina Ristau Taube's father and two brothers had come over about 10 years earlier from West Prussia, purchased land, and built a house or two in Geneseo before saving enough to bring the rest of the family over, not an easy task for G & W Taube had 6 children and Wilhelmina gave birth to her 7th 12 days after arriving in Geneseo followed by two more sons born before Gustav died of pneumonia the day after Christmas in 1889, leaving Wilhelmina to raise their 9 children with the support of her father and brothers.

Mathilda was Gustav & Wilhelmina's second oldest and moved to Coal Valley following her marriage to Emil (Amile) Edward Nightengale on 21 NOV 1897. Her older sister, Augusta, also moved to Coal Valley following her marriage to Christian Schroeder on 14 APR 1895. Matilda produced 6 children who lived to adulthood while her older sister Augusta had 17. I will have to check to see what information I have in the Taube 44 Family Trees document that my father created in the mid 1980's as I don't remember much about Ernst off the top of my head.

While you are correct concerning the names of Gustav's parents & grandparents, you did not mention that Gustav was the youngest of 3 brothers and that the children were orphaned at a young age and taken to be raised by their sponsors. Gustav and the middle brother David grew up in the same area in small villages within walking distance of each other about 70 miles SW of what today is Gdansk Poland. I had the opportunity to travel there in 2013 and drove through the villages of Parlin & Sienno where Gustav was raised. David Taube married a Ristau sister, but they chose to remain in West Prussia rather than follow the rest of the Ristau clan to America. The oldest brother, Ferdinand Frederick or Frederick Ferdinand was taken to Saxony by his sponsor and little is known about him…

Hope that this helps….
