I have purchased a lithograph dated 1965 with the name Tatarnic. The litho is numbered 7 of 11 and named Mazeppa's Ride. Was there any artists in your family in or around Toronto, Ontario Canada

Hi, Im in St Catharines. Son of Alex, (brother of Walter Tatarnic). You can type in the name Tatarnic in google or yahoo and it brings up all theTatarnic's in the net. I tried a search in Ukraine but its very difficult. I did see a Tatarnic who lived in Ukraine and moved to Czech republic before Ukraine was free of Russia. The search gave lots of people, mainly in Canada, artists, photographers, scientists, hockey players-coaches. Anyways good luck, you can also try Tatarniuk, there is a lot out west.

Yes, Joe Tatarnic lives and workes in Toronto as a artist.

My name is Robert Tatarniuk. I am the son of Jack Tatarniuk and Lena (Maslak). My Granfather was Harry Tatarniuk, Grand Mother was Alexandria. My father had two brothers, Alex and John and one sister, Helen. Alex and John spelled their last names Titarniuk. I have one cousin under that spelling and his name is Richard Titarniuk (Winnipeg). I am originally from Winnipeg and now live in Vancouver. I have one son, (29 years of age), Matthew Tatarniuk who now lives in North Bay Ontario and one daughter(33 years of age), Danielle Shebagegit, who lives in Winnipeg.

Hello Caitlin
I actually have been the grave site of your grandparents in the Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines.
I would like to contact you concerning your family. I am a descendant of the Tetanish, Tytenech, Tytenycz, Tatarnic family line. All of those names are pronounced relatively the same way phonetically and should have come from the same places in Galicia (What is now Ukraine/Poland and Austria).
I am planning to contact all of the individuals with this last name in St. Catharines soon via the telephone. I hope you will be one of them.
Take care, Tara

My father Alex who(96 yrs old)is probably the oldest living Tatarnic born 1913 in Winnipeg. He had 3 bothers Bill, Walter, Joe who all have passed. Two other siblings died in the Diptheria outbreak. A sister Jean still lives out west(Saskatchewan). His parents came to Canada from Ukraine before the revolution. They travelled by boat for 2 weeks in the bottom of a ship for immigrants. Most likely all other relatives either escaped or perished then. My granparents grave site is in that cemetary. My father and his brothers decided to change the last name spelling from Tatarniuk to its present Tatarnic. To make it easier to spell, that didnt work out to well. I instantly know when I get a phonecall from someoone who does not know me, as the name is still hard to say. I do not know of any relatives in the Ukraine, all I know is the family came from the western part near Poland under Hungarian Austrian rule..
