Taschler Meaning?

When my mother's side of the family came fromthe Pfaltz in Germany in the 1860's and 1870's their name was spelled as Taschler with an umlat over the "a." As soon as they settled in the Cincinnati OH area the name was spelled "Deschler."

Would anyone know if Taschler and Deschler are somehow the same name? Does Taschler have a meaning?

Most Respectfully,
Jim Forcum

I never heard of Deschler being a derivative of Taschler but I can see how it might have gotten misspelled during the immigration process in the 1880's.

Taschen means pocket in German and various people have told me that Taschler was a pocket maker, though I doubt that story it is the only one I have ever heard.
