Interesting that you took a picture of this grave site. Carol Ann Tarver died in a train/car crash. Her dad wrote a song in his grief... "Last Kiss", it was stolen and subsequently became a hit in 1964 and a remake by Pearl Jam. I'm sure you've all heard it!

Re: Benjamin Tarver and Thomas Tarver

John,

I have been intending to write back about what you have discovered with regards to Micajah Tarver, James Tarver, Jr. and Thomas Tarver.

I believe you have discovered some decent evidence to support the contention that Thomas Tarver who married a Susannah being the Thomas Tarver who ended up in Hickman county, Ky.

I feel that this Thomas made his way into Wilson county, Tn. by about 1801 or maybe a few years later as he was involved in land transactions in that county for several years prior to pushing on northward into Kentucky and settling in Hickman county, Ky where he died about 1833 or so.

Two other transactions in Northampton county, NC need to be scrutinized if they can be located to further provide a few more clues. These are:

DB 10:414 August 10, 1799...Thomas Tarver to James Tarver

DB 8:324 Jan. 7, 1791....Benjamin Tarver to James Hail

Now then....On to Wake county, NC for a few other transactions which I believe also involves Hickman county Thomas Tarver, son of Old James Tarver;

Wake county, NC deed book Q.....

p. 248....John Harris of Wake county to Thomas Tarver of Northampton county for 1-4-1800 148/15/10 NC currency, a tract of 110 1/2 acres in Wake county lying on waters of Smith creek adjoining Hardy Dean, Jr. and Alsey Dean and Dudley Williams and heirs of William Alston...Witnesses: Michael Dent, Benjamin Smith, and E. Holding

p. 394...Thomas Tarver to Samuel Ligon 9-4-1800 for $300 110 and 1/2 acres formerly purchased by Tarver from John Harris. Witnesses Thomas Spain, Edmund Jeter, Jr.

Other pertinent Wake county citations .........Wake county Court Minutes 1787-1872, Wynette Parks Haun.....

Bk II, p. 536 lf ...A bill of sale from James Haile to Benjamin Smith was duly proved in open court by Benjamin Tarver

Bk III, p. 277--A deed from John Norris to Frederick Tarver was proved by oath of Benjamin Tarver, a witness thereto and ordered registered 12- term 1795

Bk IV, pg. 464--A deed from Frederick Tarver to Darling Perry proved by Thomas Proctor. 12-19-1797

Bk IV, pg. 549-A deed from James Smith to Benjamin Tarver proved by John Stephens 9-18-1798

Bk. V p. 66--Deed from Darling Perry to Benjamin Tarver proved by Thomas Proctor.

Further it should be noted in about 1804 John Harris and Benjamin Tarver were appointed co-administrators of the estate of another Benjamin Tarver, most likely the father of this Benjamin Tarver. The Benjamin Tarver, Jr. appointed married a Sally Odom in about 1806 in Sumner county, Tn. a nearby county to Wilson county, Tn. This Benjamin Tarver, Jr. was born in 1770 and had sons, Jordan, James, and Bird.

So now we have some unproven connections here to deal with...How are Thomas Tarver of NHT who bought the land in Wake county from John Harris in 1800 and then sold it 9 months later connected and how do they fit in with Benjamin Tarver, SR and Benjamin Jr. who were in Wilson county, along with Thomas Tarver before he migrated into Hickman county

And who is the Frederick Tarver mentioned in the Wake county transactions with Benjamin

And how does Benjamin Tarver, the subject of the long manuscript who began in NHT who married Hannah Smith of Brunswick county, VA and who migrated into Wake county was there until about 1806-1808 or so when he left Wake county and went into Wilson county, Tn. as well
fit in

It should be noted that Harman Tarver, most likely the oldest son of Old James Tarver left his will in about 1776 in which he identifies two young sons, Robert and Frederick

Could the Benjamin who went into Sumner county, Tn. and left an estate in nearby Wilson county, Tn in 1804 be the brother of Thomas Tarver who was there also about the same time

And how does Benjamin Tarver who married Hannah Smith and eventually also goes into Wake county and then to Wilson county, Tn. fit in with the other Benjamins and Thomas of Hickman??

And was Frederick Tarver who was in Wake in say 1795-1798 the son of Harman Tarver and was the Benjamin who was involved in land transactions with him, Harman's brother Benjamin

We know that Old James Tarver had sons mentioned in his will as Harman, Billison, Benjamin, James Jr. Thomas and Micajah...

It appears to be shaping up that Thomas and Micajah were the two youngest sons who got the old manor plantation in Old James Tarver's will.

And since Thomas married a Susannah and witnessed the land transaction in NHT in 1798 in which Micajah sells that 60 acres to his older brother James Tarver, Jr. , it is logical to deduce that Thomas Tarver who did marry a Susannah as evidenced buy some record in Hickman county, Ky was the same Thomas Tarver in NHT in in 1798-1801-1804 or so...He appears to be the same Thomas Tarver buying the land from John Harris in 1800 but then selling it less than a year later...He eventually ends up in Wilson county, Tn. and then into Hickman county, Tn.

The records of this Thomas in Wilson county, Tn. need to be studied further to make certain that he came in from NHT after selling that land he owned in Wake in about 1801 or so. It does not appear that he settled in Wake county, but may have passed thru there on his way to Wilson county, Tn.

John, I wanted to lay this out for you to evaluate and then I will contact you directly via the phone numbers you provided today after you have had a chance to digest some of this

Thanks for all your insight.

I believe we have isolated Thomas Tarver identified in the above discussion from the Thomas Tarver Jr., who was a son of Old Thomas Tarver, who left his will in NHT in about 1782 in which he only names two sons: Thomas Tarver, Jr. and Jacob Tarver

Thomas Tarver, son of Old James Tarver ended up in Ky. while Thomas, son of old Thomas Tarver may have ended up in SC

Cordially,

David A. Tarver

NE Oklahoma (near the lake)
and retired

Regarding Thomas Tarver:

The Thomas Tarver (born about 1770) who was the s/o Old James Tarver may be the one who made it to Hickman County, KY and died there in 1832/33.

The reason this connection is feasible can be linked to a land deed filed in Northampton Co., NC in 1798. In this deed Micajah Tarver sells 60 acres of his land to his brother James Tarver witnessed by Thomas Tarver and Susannah Tarver. A relationship is not defined but it is likely that Thomas and Susannah are married.

Additional information as published in the Hickman Co. KY Volume II, author Linda Angle Harris, states a Susannah (maiden name unknown) married Thomas Tarver before 1794. They had 7 or 8 children including Judge Thomas Nelson Tarver, about whom a considerable amount of history has been written.

In 1799, Thomas Tarver sells 150 acres to his brother James Tarver. It is not clear if he leaves NHC at this time, but he could have.

It is also known that his brother James Tarver left NHC by 1801 and started buying land in Franklin Co. NC and resided there for at least a decade or more.

Micajah Tarver buys 50 acres from John Robinson in 1806 but sells it and the rest of his holdings to Wm. Kee (NHC deed book 13, page 379) in 1808.

At this time it would appear that all of Old James Tarver's male descendants have departed NHC. Most moved south into South Carolina /Georgia and I believe that Thomas went to Tennessee and later Kentucky.

This information is only one clue in the life of Thomas Tarver, but suggests a strong one.

I will include some information concerning James Tarver at a later date.

Cordially,

John E Tarver

Re: Benjamin Tarver and Thomas Tarver

Based upon the research I have done over the years there are at least 3-4 Thomas Tarvers in
Northampton county, NC in the period 1743 to say 1800.

Thomas Tarver b. about 1712 or so and who I believe is a son of old Samuel b. about 1680 had a son Thomas b. abt. 1730 to 1740. There are many land transactions in Northampton county, NC in which this older Thomas was involved with. This Thomas left a will in Northampton county, NC in 1782 naming the son Thomas and another son Jacob.

It is not clear if Thomas b. apprx. 1730 to 1740 had a son Thomas, but he may have had.

There was a Thomas Tarver who died in Greene county, NC and left a will there in 1806 naming young children, but no Thomas was mentioned only a John.

Old James Tarver b. about 1720 or so had a son Thomas as well. James left his will in 1775-1776 naming several sons. I believe the two youngest were a Thomas and Micajah who were left the old manor plantation.

And then it may be that the Benjamin Tarver b. abt. 1730-1740 or so had a son Thomas.

A Thomas Tarver showed up in St. George parish Ga., in about 1768 from N.C.

Then another Thomas Tarver acquired land in S.C. in about 1784.

So, it is very difficult to trace the Thomas Tarver who ended up in Hickman County, Ky. leaving his will there in 1833 back to his father in N.C.

Thomas of Hickman county may have been in Wilson county, Tn. by 1801 or so. Then he resided there for several years before moving on into Hickman county, Ky.

Benjamin Tarver b. abt. 1770 or so was the administrator for an older Benjamin Tarver who died in either Wilson or nearby Sumner county, Tn. in about 1804. This Benjamin I believe is the one b. abt. 1730-1740 I mentioned above. It may be that Thomas of hickman county, ky was a son and brother to the Benjamin b. 1770 in NC.

So there may be three different possibilities for who Thomas of Hickman county, Ky 's father was:

Maybe a son of Thomas b. 1730-1740 ....Maybe a son of Benjamin b. abt. 1730-1740 or maybe of old James Tarver b. abt. 1720 or so. Most of the Tarvers of this time period were in Northampton county, NC beginning about 1743 and some remaining there until the 1810-1820 time period...

I am interested in making all the connections of these older Tarver families, but it has been a real challenge over the years. Naming patterns are repeated over and over and there is not an abundance of records available to make the connections absolutely.

I work on it from time to time, and would be glad to discuss it in greater detail with you.

Thanks for your input.

Cordially,

David A.
My 5th great grandfather is a Thomas Tarver born around 1770 in NC, and moved with his family to Wilson County TN and in 1830 to Hickman County Kentucky. He had 3 sons Howell R., Thomas Nelson, and Milton S. Also several daughters including my 4th great grandmother Elizabeth Tarver. I am wondering if my Thomas and your Thomas are the same. Do you have any other nformation that could link them? My Thomas Tarver died in 1833 in Hickman County. His son Thomas Nelson moved to Mississippi as well as Milton. I believe Howell died in Hickman County KY. I know that both my Thomas and my Elizabeth were born in NC. Elizabeth married Thomas N. Moore in Wilson County, TN. Thanks for any info.

Sherry Vaughn Peters

Hello!

My husband's g-g-grandfather was born in Midway, AL in 1842 to ? Tarver(born SC) and Lucy ? (born in GA). Benjamin Leonadas Tarver married Mary Cook(?), and they had a son, Benjamin Cook Tarver in AL born 1875. I assume that "Cook" is his mother's maiden name? Ben Cook Tarver moved to CA (Eureka/Humboldt Co) with his siblings: James, Brooks, John Pitt, Harriett and Vivian Tarver, between 1890-1896 (voter registration places him there in 1896, along with Ben L. Tarver, his father, who is placed there via voter registration in 1890).

Please contact me if you have any information about B.L. Tarver or B.C. Tarver.

I too have been researching the Tarvers from Northampton County, N.C. for many years. The line I have been working on is through Mississippi and on to Catahoula Parish , Louisanna. My great grandfather was John Houston Tarver born in Mississippi in 1814. I believe his father was James Tarver from the Nothampton area of N.C.. His wife was Sally Hillman/Hillsman as my grandfather was nameed Edwin HILLMAN Tarver who died in 1913 in Burleson, Texas. While this is not a postive proof of this linkage it is strong evidence that this relationship must be considered.

It is thought that James Tarver father was also named James, borned abt 1735.
I have not Had much sucess with putting the puzzle together in N.C. I do appricated your feedback and hope we both have sucess in the future
John Tarver
Burleson, Texas

A piece of the early Tarver puzzle --Benjamin Tarver

I have been working on the early Tarver families in and around Northampton county, NC from about 1743 to 1800 or so and trying to sort them out now for a long time.

On the 1790 Northampton county, NC census among other Tarvers, appears two Benjamin Tarver's.

I am trying to confirm these as one Benjamin, son of Samuel Tarver(who left his will in Northampton county, NC in 1778) and one Benjamin, son of Andrew Tarver(who left his will in Northampton county, NC in 1780.

There is one other Benjamin Tarver, who was in NHT early beginning about 1749 or so. However, by 1790 he has moved on. I am trying to confirm him as Benjamin, son of James Tarver(who left his will in Northampton county, NC in 1775)

This Benjamin may be Captain Benjamin who led a group of about 40 men into Va. in the Revolutionary War while delivering prisioners there. He may also be the Benjamin who moved into Warren county, NC in about 1780 and then to SC by 1785 or so.

I have studied the wills of Samuel, Andrew, and James and am trying to verify their sons in terms of where they migrated to.

The Benjamin, son of Samuel appears to be the Benjamin who migrated into Wake county, NC then into Wilson county, Tn.
This Bemjamin did have a brother Samuel and a brother John. John appears to have migrated to SC then to so. MS.
Samuel eventually ended up in Wilson county, Tn. and died there about 1830, while Benjamin died there in 1821.

The Benjamin, son of Andrew appears to be the Benjamin who
may have migrated early into Jones county, Ga as it appears per Andrew's will that he may not have been born until after 1758 or so. He may have had a daughter, Elizabeth who married Henry Lowe and had the son Henry H. Lowe.

I am attempting to sort all the original Tarvers who were in and around Northampton county, NC beginning with Thomas who shows up in records there as early as 1743.

There has always been the traditional belief that Samuel Tarver who married Mary Boyce had the seven sons who migrated out of Surry county, Va into Northampton county, NC.

I am not certain this is correct and am attempting to verify as much of the early line as possible.

Anyone who can help in identifying/or confirming or denying the above 3 Benjamin's as I have them set forth would help tremendously.

It appears that Thomas arriving initially in the area just right on the NC/VA line in and around the Jack swamp/Cates Hole area was the oldest of all the Tarver men in that area at that time. He and John who appears scantly in a few records is nearby.

Then Samuel, James, and Andrew and the above older Benjamin appear in various transactions seemingly closer together.

The older Benjamin, is either in my view, a son of James or another of the possible brothers (thomas, james, samuel, andrew, john, william, who was murdered in 1750 and perhaps the Benjamin in question.

I would like to discuss any of the early Tarver lines with anyone who would be interested.

Thanks,

Cordially,

David A.
John,

Thanks for the reply.

In Northampton county, NC the earliest I can find James Tarver which I estimate to be born about 1718 -1720 or so was in land records in 1746. At about that same time, Samuel Tarver, Andrew Tarver, and Benjamin Tarver appear from various land records close to James Tarver as they witness deeds and act as chain carriers for one another when land is being surveyed.

I believe that Samuel, Andrew, James, and Benjamin were close in age and most likely brothers.

It may be that two older Tarvers in Northampton right on the VA/NC line namely, Thomas Tarver and John Tarver are are also brothers, but Thomas and John were not involved in any of the land surveys with the others and did not act as chain carriers and did not witness any of the deeds that James, Andrew, Samuel and Benjamin were involved in there in NHT county, NC beginning in 1746 or so.

Thomas Tarver appears the earliest in NHT records in about 1743 or so and maybe earlier. John is found in a Brunswick county, Va (just north of the Va/NC line)land transaction witnessing it in 1737. Thomas appears to me to be the oldest of the Tarvers in NHT and he is identified as selling 200 acres in Surry county, va. in 1747 to the Longs. He received this 200 acres from the older Samuel Tarver by deeds--(most likely his father as in Va. the oldest son got the land due to the Va. law at that time.) This citation links Thomas Tarver to Samuel Tarver of Surry County, Va. Samuel b. abt. 1685 or so.

This Samuel Tarver was the son of OLD Thomas Tarver first appearing in Surry county, Va. tithables in about 1687 or so and who left his will in Surry county, va in about 1712 naming his son, Samuel Tarver as the executor and not mentioning any other sons.

Now focusing in on James Tarver who died in about 1775 and left his will there in NHT county. He named 13 children in the will with the sons: Harmon, Billison, James, Benjamin,
Thomas and Micajah.

Now James, Jr. b. about 1750 or so seems to have stayed in the NHT county area until the late 1790's or so and he is found in Franklin county, NC records about 1800 with a son, James, as well.

James III must have been born about 1775 or so and he married Sally Hilsman, a daughter of Hinde Hilsman who was born 1744. (Hinde Hilsman was a son of Bennett Hilsman. Hinde Hilsman had a son Reddick Hilsman as well. )Sally Hilsman, wife of James Tarver III was born about 1786.

Then, apparently, James Tarver III and Sally Hilsman Tarver migrated on into southern Mississippi (Lawrence county) and are shown on the 1820 census there.

As you know, John Houston Tarver was a son of James III and Sally. Another brother appears to be Hilsman Tarver and maybe two others; possibly Wiley and James IV.

It is not clear as to where all the sons of OLD James Tarver who died in NHT county, NC in 1775 migrated to.

I have studied it in some detail and cannot establish exactly where Benjamin, Thomas, and Micajah migrated to. I have some notions, but have not been able to link them absolutely.

I understand that much of the above may already be part of your research files, but wanted to sort of lay it out for possible discussion.

I would like to tie in all the sons of OLD James Tarver who resided in NHT county, NC from about 1746 to his death in about 1775.

Any discussion about these early NHT county, NC
Tarvers would be appreciated.

Cordially,

David A.

John,

I understand that you have a lot to do as spring approaches to keep the farm going.

As you can work it in, maybe your planned work on North Carolina (particularly the Northampton county, NC and other adjacent counties)can eventually take place at some later time.

I would be glad to compare notes at that time with you on any of the research you conduct relative to the early Tarver lines in North Carolina and any other state that may become involved.

I don't believe that my line which comes out of southern Mississippi (particularly Amite, Madison, and Attala counties) is traced back to OLD James Tarver who died in Northampton county, Nc and left the will there probated about 1775 or 1776.

I am leaning toward my line coming down from Thomas Tarver, a likely older brother to OLD James Tarver. OLD Thomas Tarver left his will in NHT in 1782 and only names sons, Jacob and Thomas. This son, Thomas Tarver, Jr., I feel migrated into Burke county, Ga initially and then on into Barnwell county, South Carolina arriving there about 1785.

OLD James Tarver did name a son, Thomas, in his will in which he left the old manor plantation to both Thomas and another brother, Micajah.

I think based upon the order in the will, this Thomas and Micajah were the youngest sons of OLD James Tarver. I have from time to time thought that this Thomas may have been the Thomas Tarver migrating to Burke county, Ga early about 1768 or so. (100 acre grant in 1771 in St. George parish, Ga which became Burke county, Ga in 1777)

However, based upon the leaving of the manor plantation to Thomas Tarver in OLD James Tarvers's will probated about 1776, it would seem the son Thomas would still be in and around Northampton county, NC at that time. And further, this Thomas would most likely not be of the age to have a son, Benjamin Tarver born about 1770-1780 (see comments below about this Benjamin, Sr.)

A Thomas Tarver purchased land in Barnwell county, SC in 1784-1785 and is there on the Barnwell county, SC census in 1800.

I feel this Thomas had a son, Benjamin Tarver, b abt. 1770-1780. I feel he migrated down into southern Ms. about 1811 or so.

This Benjamin Tarver had sons: Thomas, Wilson, John, Benjamin, Ira Bird, Mark, and Lott.

My line comes out of the son, Benjamin, Jr., who is shown on the Madison county, Ms. census in 1840 and Benjamin Jr/'s sons, Albert G. and James L. along with Benjamin Jr/'s wife, Mary , but not Benjamin Jr. are shown on the 1850 Attala county, Ms. census.

I have tried to make the connection of Benjamin, Sr. to Thomas, Jr., the son of OLD Thomas, Sr. to reflect a connection with adequate underlying support.

However, due to the lack of records and repetitive naming patterns the connection to this date (and I have been at it for a number of years)is basically a circumstantial case.

In past years, I have had various hunches, theories, about the connection from time to time, some proven out, some not, and still cannot make the link with an absolute degree of certainty which I would like to do.

I believe it has some merit, but cannot absolutely connect the link.

Any clues which might be uncovered would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your response and good luck in the days ahead,

Cordially,

David A.
Re: Benjamin Tarver

John, Thanks for the inquiry.

Yes, I have read the entire manuscript a few times.

The best I can determine from it is that Benjamin Tarver who made his way into Wilson County, Tn. about 1806-1808 was most likely a son of Samuel Tarver, who died in NHT county, NC 1778. Sons mentioned in Samuel Tarver's will of about 1778 were John, Samuel, and Benjamin. I have other information that reveals that Benjamin and Samuel were brothers. Both went into Wilson county, Tn. with Samuel arriving there in the late 1820's and passing away there about 1830 or so.

The older brother John mentioned in the Benj. Tarver manuscript appears to be the one that became a circuit riding Methodist minister assigned to the Claiborne, Ms. circuit in about 1806 or so. This John first settled in Claiborne county, Ms. and then on into Amite county, Ms. by 1808-1810 or so.

I am still working on the sons of OLD James Tarver who prepared his will in 1775 which was probated in 1777.

I have some information on Harmon, Billison, and James, but very little on Benjamin, Thomas and Micajah.

I am trying to determine if the son, Thomas went into Soth Carolina about 1784 or so and if so, he may have had the son, Benjamin, who along with an Allen Tarver migrated along with several other Barnwell county, SC families into Amite county, Ms in the period 1808-1811 or so.

OLD James Tarver settled in an area of the Occoneechee swamp
near the headwaters of the Wheelers Mill Swamp in about 1746 or so. He mentioned 13 children in his will prepared in 1777. Billison and James were appointed his executors.

I located Billison down in Anson county, NC along with a Micajah, which was most likely one of his sons as early as 1802. And they are on the 1810 Anson county, NC census as well.

Billison had about 14 children with a naming pattern very similar to the names used by his Mother and Father, OLD James Tarver and Lucy Seat, daughter of Billison Seat.

James Tarver, Jr. appears to stay in NHT county until about 1800 or so when he is found in adjacent Franklin county, NC.

I believe Benjamin made his way into maybe Burke county, Ga by about 1794 or so and then on to Jones county, Ga by about 1795.

Billison eventually moved into Jones county, Ga apparently after his wife Sally (Selah) passed away in about 1808. Billison died in Jones county, Ga. in 1817.

Billison had sons Elisha and Elijah, who are in that same Jones county, Ga area in the 1820's.

I believe Benjamin was too and I am trying to confirm that thru continued study and evaluation of the few records I can find.

Thomas Tarver, as I read the will of OLD James Tarver was the next to the youngest son with Micajah being the youngest. Thomas and Micajah were given the old manor plantation by the will of OLD James Tarver. This was in 1777. A Thomas Tarver purchased land in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina in 1784. Then a John Tarver purchased land in the same area in 1785.

There is some merit to the possibility that Thomas Tarver purchasing the land in 1784 in South Carolina is the son of OLD James Tarver. I am trying to confirm this possibility with more certainty at this time.

Many of the descendants of OLD James Tarver who died in 1777 eventually made their way into Mississippi in the early 1800's and it could very well be that Thomas Tarver shown on the Barnwell county, SC census in 1800 had sons, Benjamin and Allen who were noted in Amite county, MS. records as early as 1810 or so.

Any help in making this a more certain connection would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Cordially,

David A.
Early Tarver familes of Burke county, Ga/Barnwell county, SC

Would like to discuss with those interested in early Tarver families in Burke county, Ga and Barnwell county, SC in an attempt to tie in the sons of Thomas Tarver b. abt. 1714 and who left a will in Northampton county, NC dated 1782 in which he only mentions sons Thomas and Jacob.

In early Burke county, Ga land records it is noted that Samuel Tarver was there by 1793, Jacob there by 1799 and Absalom by 1788 or so. These same three men were in my view the ones reflected in Old Dobbs county, NC in 1779-1780 period.

A son of Samuel Tarver, Etheldred Jordan Tarver, Sr. was in Burke county by 1792-1793 when he married there.

The 1805 Georgia lottery identifies the following in Burke county except Etheldred and Jacob who were identified in nearby Richmond county, Ga-------- Celia Tarver (lottery # 72), a widow-- wife of Samuel Tarver b. 1739 who died in 1802; Samuel Tarver --single-#71(Samuel B. Tarver b. 1780); Robert Tarver --single--#70 born about 1775 or so; Absalom Tarver--married # 74 b. 1757--son of Jacob Tarver, Sr.; William Tarver--married #75; Jacob Tarver, Sr. #40 b. abt. 1737 or so and the Baptist minister who died in Wilkes county, Ga in 1822), Andrew--single #41--son of Jacob Tarver, Sr.and Benjamin-- single #44--son of Jacob Tarver, Sr. In nearby Richmond county--Etheldred Tarver, son of Samuel b. 1739--married #849 b. about 1770 and Jacob Tarver--single # 847--(possibly Absalom's son or his brother),

To me it is lining up like this:

Thomas Tarver b. abt. 1714 died in NHT 1782
sons---I.Samuel b. 1739 (not named in the will)
sons-
1.Thomas b. abt. 1760 or so died in Greene
county, 1806
2. Etheldred b. abt. 1770
3. Robert b. abt. 1775 died abt.
1807-1809
4. Samuel B. b. 1780

II. Jacob b. abt. 1737 died 1822
sons-
1. Absalom b. 1757
2. Jacob Jr.
3. Andrew
4. Benjamin
5. Robert

III. Thomas b. abt. 1745-1750 (Orangeburg district
SC land purchase in 1784, possibly in St. George parish, Ga.(eventually became Burke county, Ga) receiving a land grant in St. George parish, Ga. in 1771 revealing that he had been in Georgia about one year on his initial application made in May 1770. Shown as tax defaulter in Daniel Evans district, Burke county, Ga 1790-1793.
sons--
1. Benjamin b. abt. 1775--migrated to southern Ms. (Amite county, MS by 1811 or so)
2. Mark Etheldred b. 1786 or so who according to his obituary was born in SC and migrated to Burke county about 1817-1819 after the war of 1812
3. Samuel
4. Joseph T.
5. Thomas
6. maybe Allen who is shown in the southern Ms. by 1816 along with Benjamin--they were shown in the record as Tarborough/Tarbrough

It should be noted that the only Tarvers in Barnwell county, Sc. in 1786 when Mark Etheldred Tarver was born there were John Tarver and Thomas Tarver. It is my view that Mark is the son of Thomas Tarver. This would make him first cousin of Samuel B. Tarver and not his brother as is suggested in some of the forums.

The above Samuel, Jacob, and Absalom all were in old Dobbs county, NC by 1780 and came into Burke county, Ga from that county.

This is in a state of development, but to me has merit based upon detailed study of early Burke county, Ga Tarvers and Old Dobbs county, NC Tarvers.

I have been at this a long time and have made several hunches, theories, etc in an attempt to properly identify the early Tarvers who migrated into Burke county, Ga. and nearby Barnwell county, SC and then some to southern Ms. (Amite county) in the early 1800's where my line is found.

Would like to discuss this with interested parties in an effort to strengthen this position.

Thanks for your time and patience.

David A.
I believe this is Oliver Gardner Tarver (1834-aft 1907) son of Mark Tarver & Sarah Greenway. This Oliver is brother to Roberson Tarver (1825-1890) who married Florence Burdick. They had a son Roberson Goldsmith Tarver.

According to the family bible in the possession of the Holmes family (which seems to have been started by Roberson & Florence's daughter Sarah), Roberson and Florence had no sons named Oliver.

I hope this helps! Sorry he is flipped on his side!

Based on the family tree info I have, the names you mentioned do not sound familiar. I thank you for responding, though.

Hi Benny,
My name is Karen DeSalvo. My paternal grandmother is Effie elizabeth Tarver; daughter of William Shockley Tarver and Pernice Clementine Davis.Effie married albert t Smith and their son, virgil Smith is my father. Effie & Albert are buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Mineral Wells, Tx where I was born. I've never known the Tarvers or the Smiths. i have a couple of pictures of my aunt Mae Pearl Smith, Effies' daughter, but have never seen pictures of Effie or Albert. Effie died before I was born in 1951. If you have any info or pictures, please contact me.
Sharon Ann Tarver

I am trying to find the death date for Sharon Ann Tarver. I went to High School with her and we are preparing a Memorial Page for deceased classmates. Sharon is on that list. We graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1965 in Midland Texas. Our class reunion is in July. From genealogy.com on the Tarver Famiy Forum I found the link: http://tarver-genealogy.net/cgi-bin/obits/forum.cgi?index posted in 2002. However it is no longer working so my questions are does anyone know Sharon or have any record of her? Is there still a site that list Tarver Obits. Thanks, Betty
