John,
I have been intending to write back about what you have discovered with regards to Micajah Tarver, James Tarver, Jr. and Thomas Tarver.
I believe you have discovered some decent evidence to support the contention that Thomas Tarver who married a Susannah being the Thomas Tarver who ended up in Hickman county, Ky.
I feel that this Thomas made his way into Wilson county, Tn. by about 1801 or maybe a few years later as he was involved in land transactions in that county for several years prior to pushing on northward into Kentucky and settling in Hickman county, Ky where he died about 1833 or so.
Two other transactions in Northampton county, NC need to be scrutinized if they can be located to further provide a few more clues. These are:
DB 10:414 August 10, 1799...Thomas Tarver to James Tarver
DB 8:324 Jan. 7, 1791....Benjamin Tarver to James Hail
Now then....On to Wake county, NC for a few other transactions which I believe also involves Hickman county Thomas Tarver, son of Old James Tarver;
Wake county, NC deed book Q.....
p. 248....John Harris of Wake county to Thomas Tarver of Northampton county for 1-4-1800 148/15/10 NC currency, a tract of 110 1/2 acres in Wake county lying on waters of Smith creek adjoining Hardy Dean, Jr. and Alsey Dean and Dudley Williams and heirs of William Alston...Witnesses: Michael Dent, Benjamin Smith, and E. Holding
p. 394...Thomas Tarver to Samuel Ligon 9-4-1800 for $300 110 and 1/2 acres formerly purchased by Tarver from John Harris. Witnesses Thomas Spain, Edmund Jeter, Jr.
Other pertinent Wake county citations .........Wake county Court Minutes 1787-1872, Wynette Parks Haun.....
Bk II, p. 536 lf ...A bill of sale from James Haile to Benjamin Smith was duly proved in open court by Benjamin Tarver
Bk III, p. 277--A deed from John Norris to Frederick Tarver was proved by oath of Benjamin Tarver, a witness thereto and ordered registered 12- term 1795
Bk IV, pg. 464--A deed from Frederick Tarver to Darling Perry proved by Thomas Proctor. 12-19-1797
Bk IV, pg. 549-A deed from James Smith to Benjamin Tarver proved by John Stephens 9-18-1798
Bk. V p. 66--Deed from Darling Perry to Benjamin Tarver proved by Thomas Proctor.
Further it should be noted in about 1804 John Harris and Benjamin Tarver were appointed co-administrators of the estate of another Benjamin Tarver, most likely the father of this Benjamin Tarver. The Benjamin Tarver, Jr. appointed married a Sally Odom in about 1806 in Sumner county, Tn. a nearby county to Wilson county, Tn. This Benjamin Tarver, Jr. was born in 1770 and had sons, Jordan, James, and Bird.
So now we have some unproven connections here to deal with...How are Thomas Tarver of NHT who bought the land in Wake county from John Harris in 1800 and then sold it 9 months later connected and how do they fit in with Benjamin Tarver, SR and Benjamin Jr. who were in Wilson county, along with Thomas Tarver before he migrated into Hickman county
And who is the Frederick Tarver mentioned in the Wake county transactions with Benjamin
And how does Benjamin Tarver, the subject of the long manuscript who began in NHT who married Hannah Smith of Brunswick county, VA and who migrated into Wake county was there until about 1806-1808 or so when he left Wake county and went into Wilson county, Tn. as well
fit in
It should be noted that Harman Tarver, most likely the oldest son of Old James Tarver left his will in about 1776 in which he identifies two young sons, Robert and Frederick
Could the Benjamin who went into Sumner county, Tn. and left an estate in nearby Wilson county, Tn in 1804 be the brother of Thomas Tarver who was there also about the same time
And how does Benjamin Tarver who married Hannah Smith and eventually also goes into Wake county and then to Wilson county, Tn. fit in with the other Benjamins and Thomas of Hickman??
And was Frederick Tarver who was in Wake in say 1795-1798 the son of Harman Tarver and was the Benjamin who was involved in land transactions with him, Harman's brother Benjamin
We know that Old James Tarver had sons mentioned in his will as Harman, Billison, Benjamin, James Jr. Thomas and Micajah...
It appears to be shaping up that Thomas and Micajah were the two youngest sons who got the old manor plantation in Old James Tarver's will.
And since Thomas married a Susannah and witnessed the land transaction in NHT in 1798 in which Micajah sells that 60 acres to his older brother James Tarver, Jr. , it is logical to deduce that Thomas Tarver who did marry a Susannah as evidenced buy some record in Hickman county, Ky was the same Thomas Tarver in NHT in in 1798-1801-1804 or so...He appears to be the same Thomas Tarver buying the land from John Harris in 1800 but then selling it less than a year later...He eventually ends up in Wilson county, Tn. and then into Hickman county, Tn.
The records of this Thomas in Wilson county, Tn. need to be studied further to make certain that he came in from NHT after selling that land he owned in Wake in about 1801 or so. It does not appear that he settled in Wake county, but may have passed thru there on his way to Wilson county, Tn.
John, I wanted to lay this out for you to evaluate and then I will contact you directly via the phone numbers you provided today after you have had a chance to digest some of this
Thanks for all your insight.
I believe we have isolated Thomas Tarver identified in the above discussion from the Thomas Tarver Jr., who was a son of Old Thomas Tarver, who left his will in NHT in about 1782 in which he only names two sons: Thomas Tarver, Jr. and Jacob Tarver
Thomas Tarver, son of Old James Tarver ended up in Ky. while Thomas, son of old Thomas Tarver may have ended up in SC
