How do I find out more about the Tapia's from New Mexico? My great grandfather, Augistin(e) Tapia appears on a 1920 census for Arizona in Morenci. The census gives his age as 46......putting his birth year 1873/1874, (depending if his birthday was after January) and born in New Mexico. It says both his parents were born in Mexico and I have their names (from my mom) as Teafilo and Gomencina (Gomez) Tapia. What would be the next logical move to make? Any insight would be great!

Surnames: Tapia
Hi!

I don't know where they are from in New Mexico..........that's just it.......I am trying to figure out how to find out where they were from. On an 1920 census for Morenci, Arizona it states that my great grandfather, Augustin(e) Tapia was born in New Mexico. He was 46 at the time so that puts his birth year at 1874. It also states that his parents are from Mexico. I know that his parents names were Teafilo and Gomencina Tapia.

Let me know if these names sound familiar to you.
Thanks,
Anita

I found Church record very helpful in some of my research. Most were baptist as infants and lot of nuns were midwifes here in NM for many years. So church record is another way to search.

Hello,
I just read your posting on the Tapia family. I believe that we are distantly related. I have a distant Tapia family contact in either Santa Fe or Albuquerque. I grew up in Las Cruces. I believe that their dad or grandfather worked for the rail road. Since back then it was a federal job, you can check for records and old paychecks.
Let me know if you find anything.
