Julius “Tarp” Taormina, born December 22, 1931 in Johnstown, PA to John & Josephine departed this life on Monday October15, 2012.
He leaves behind his loving wife Dorothy Jane Taormina; sons Michael, William (Camila); Robert (Laura); daughter Julie (Patrick); grandson Anthony (Kelley); great grandson Jonathan; brothers Chuck (Carmella) and Michael (Cookie). He was preceded in death by brother John, sister Lucy, and son John.
Tarp earned all-state honors in football and track for Johnstown High School.
He came to The University of Toledo in 1951 and earned all-MAC honors as a running and defensive back.
He was inducted into the University’s Hall of Fame in 1994.
After graduating college, Tarp was a teacher at various schools, including Springfield High School, where he was a football and track coach until he retired.
In his later years he participated in the Senior Olympics and enjoyed the camaraderie.
He was a friend to everyone he met and will be missed by his family and friends.
Friends are invited to visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 South Reynolds Road, Toledo, OH on Friday, October 19 from 2 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will begin at Coyle Funeral Home at 9:15 on Saturday, October 20 with a Mass to follow at 10 a.m. at Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd, Toledo, OHIO
. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
