Searching for info on Augustus Tanas. Family history says his name was changed at Ellis Island and it used to be longer. Does anyone know the original surname?

Hi, I was told that the origin of my last name is greek and that the original spelling was Tanas. What do you think?
|
Hi. That is very interesting! My nephew Phillip said that their TANAS name used to be something longer but he doesn't know what. He has asked me to try to find out for him. I will let him see your message next week when I see him. His grandfather, James Tanas, is still living. He could call and ask him if he had ever heard that name before. Thanks for the info!!
