I am researching the Talton genealogy. My GGF was John Talton who was married (or not) to Mary Oden. I know they had at least one son John Butler Talton in 1902. On a 1900 census report, I found that Mary Oden was listed as a widower with three children: Carrie B (1892), Ruby E (1895) and Ramon B (my grandfather, 1898). On this census, Ruby and Ramon are listed as Odens, but have been raised with the Talton name. ???? Andrew J. and Sarah E. Talton lived next door with their 6 children; one of which was a John Talton. Anyone have any additional information on this line will be greatly appreciated as I am a newby at this research.

Sorry I did not see this for a while. I'll send you the story (at least what is relevant to Charles Talton) via email if you would like. You can write at jeniru6@rocketmail.com or just give here and I'll find it. I would prefer no to publish it for everyone to read. My grandmother writes what she remembered of him or what was told to her. She was still young when he either died or disappeared. She describes him a bit in the story. I'll ask again, but I don't think we have a picture of him. I wish we did. She had very fond memories of him. I hope it adds to your story.

My great great grandfather was henry Claiborne talton. he was born in about 1839 in VA to a slave by the name of Martha Harris. He is listed as mulatto in the 1870 census, and his father may have been a white Talton carrying the same name.
The attached picture contains my Henry Claiborne Talton.
There is also a Talton Family Cemetary My Mother's GrandMother was Emma Arkansas Talton. She married Robert Clinton Davis. Great GrandMother Emma had 15 siblings. I can't tell you much about her personally as I was not born at the time of her passing. I do know that the Taltons spent time in Wayne, Johnston and Sampson Counties.

The Talton Cemetary is located outside of Pikeville just off of Mt. Carmel Church Road. It has a fence around it and appears to be a little better maintained than the one pictured.

Diane--My wife is actually descended from the Taltons. Sounds like the same place and yes, Turner's stone is there and not broken (two attached). We spent quite a lot of time cleaning up this cemetery but have not be been back for about a year so I am sure it is overgrown again but not to the original extent. There are Taltons all over the place there but we can't get them to do a lick to care for this treasure. You are welcome to email me directly at bob_robb@hotmail.com (don't forget the "underscore" between bob and robb.

Donald--I am not a Talton but am married to a Talton descendent. If you are thinking about the same Talton cemetery where some of my my wife's family are buried it still exists and one way to get there is to cross a mostly dry but deep drainage ditch (maybe your dry creek) and it is in a wooded area. We have spent some time resurrecting it. It is the resting place of Revister Talton 1839-1910, veteran of the war between the states. Attached see photo--haven't been back for a while so likely overgrown again but going back soon. I do not recall seeing any Fred, Mary or kids with those names but there are a lot of unmarked graves--we marked those we thought were there with boards. Bob

I am a TALTON by birth. I believe I've been to the cemetery you are showing. It is in the woods next to a field near Princeton,NC. Is the broken stone of Turner R. Talton? If so, he would be my gr-grandfather by way of his son, Rufus Henderson Talton. We could not find Turner's grave when we were there, but found some others, including his mother and father's stones. If this is the cemetery I went to I'd like more info and pictures. Thank you, Diane

My grandmother is 1/2 Native American & Black, her father Silas Talton was fullblood Indian, his records indicate he was born in Alabama, but I have not been able to locate info regarding his parents and their tribe and/or where they were from. Silas was born in 1870. My grandmother lived in Oklahoma for awhile and had children there. She married my grandfather A D Glover. She is listed as Beatrice Tolton instead of Talton in the census.

I have Carter & Talton in my family tree..

My great great grandmother was Mary Ann Carter (ca. Oct. 1852- Aug. 1937). She married Henry Claiborne Talton in 1883 in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. Much later in life (at age 60), I have records that she married Ab Cross. Mary Ann was Henry’s 2nd wife. They had 8 children (Henry had 6 additional children from his 1st wife- Lucinda Atlanta Dansby).
Mary Ann Carter’s family (prior to her marriage to Henry) can be found on the 1870 and 1880 Claiborne Parish, LA census. At some point, Mary Ann moved to Arkansas where she passed away.

I am interested in finding information on Mary Ann Carter’s parents, who are listed as Joseph & Alice Carter (born Jones). They both can be found on the 1870 and 1880 Claiborne Parish, LA census. The census says they were born in South Carolina. But I do not have any information on where. According to the Census data, Joseph was born around 1809 while Alice was born around 1824.

I heard that Joseph was born a slave, but was given manumission papers and land in Minden, Louisiana where he had land value in excess of $2600.

I’d be interested to know if anyone has any information on Joseph, his slave master(s), any possible siblings, photos, anything….

Ultimately, if anyone is familiar with these names, please contact me here or via my email: jerswifey@gmail.com

My great great grandfather was Henry Claiborne Talton a famer was born ca. 1839 – 1920 in either Georgia or Virginia. His first wife was Lucinda Atlanta Dansby, they had 6 children. His 2nd wife was Mary Ann Carter (married in 1883), they had 8 children.
Henry and Mary Ann lived in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana.

I am trying to find information on Henry Claiborne Talton, his siblings and his parents. I have heard that his father may have been a slave owner by the name of Samuel or Ransom Talton, and his mother was Martha Talton (born Harris). I believe his mother and father were from Virginia. The 1870 & 1880 Claiborne, LA census lists Henry as Mullato. I have a photo of him dating back to ca. 1907, and he actually appears to be a white man.

In any event, if anyone has any information, names, photos, or anything in general, please contact here or via my email: jerswifey@gmail.com

Many thanks!
He had a sister name Bertha and brothers by the name of H.T and ulysses. My uncle's mother was Josephine Anderson and she had a sister by name of Mandy Anderson. My grandparents were John Thomas Talton and Alma Amanda Payton; my father was Fred Lawson Talton (one of their sons). Through the years, I have lost touch with the Talton clan. I do know that Norma Sue Talton (daughter of Garnet (Pete) Talton lives in Dawsonville, Georgia. Hope this information helps - any other questions, just e-mail me. Thanks
Not really... they don't the ones that I know of lived to be in there late 70's and survived a couple of world wars.
I know where many of the actual records are about the Talton family are..and you won't ever believe who has got them. They're in Monroe Louisiana. And Willard and Waldine MANNING have them! Same Manning's as in Archie, Peyton et al.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously, "our" families were not too concerned that they damn near named every child with same name droups...makes it difficult, don't you think? Anyway, is anyone out there who knows the location of my grandparents "Talton Family Cematary? I was really young when my grandmother (Mary E. O'Neal) was buried there.
I remember crossing a sorta dry creek and then inside a wooded area...Fred and Mary's children were: Curtis, Carl, Lucille, "Minnie" and Oscar (my father) who spent WW11 in the Pacific.... My sister and I are concerned that the Cematary may have been bulldozed (Illegally, of course)and was supposed to be kept open with family access inpurpet"""
You ain't gonna believe what I have to tell you about the connection between the Louisiana Talton's and the NC ones!!!
