OPAL MANDALEE OLIVAS, 79, died Tuesday in Albuquerque. She was a foster mother to more than 39 children over the last 30 years and loved to work with teenagers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernesto Olivas; and a brother, Bobby Talachey. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia and husband Samuel Martinez of Abiquiu; her son, Roberto Olivas of Ranchitos; a close nephew, Archie Valdez and wife Annabel of El Llano; very close foster children, Timothy Martinez and Jessie Lovato; brother, Phillip Talachey of Alcalde; and many grandchildren, other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church on La Joya Street with burial to follow at the Loma Vista Cemetery in Alcalde.
