My relatives come from the coal mining area in Pa. My gfather was Joseph Takach and had 7 or 8 brothers sisters who came to America during WWI in a hay cart. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so drop me a line- I'd love to see if we're related!!!!!!!

My grandmother's maiden name was Tackach, although I'm not sure of the spelling. I can tell you though that she and my grandfather lived in PA and he was a coal miner. This was probably in the 40's or 50's. I still have relatives that live in PA. I'm 2 days into researching my family history on my mother's side, so I don't have too much info. yet. I think though that my great-grandmother was Elizabeth. I'm waiting for my mom to provide me with some details. Feel free to contact me if you like!

Hi Liane, my grandfather's name was Michael Takach and I believe he came either from Czech. or Ukrainia. He was a coal miner in the Frackville, PA area. He may be related to you, I will ask my mother. She was his youngest child.

Marie- My grandfather was Joseph Paul Takach, Sr. I know he came from a large family & I know one of his brothers was Andrew & one of his sisters was (or is) Margaret. I don't know where Frakville is. My grandparents lived in Jeddo Japan (just outside Freeland). I still have an aunt there (Agnes Brasavage) but we don't speak very often. Please let me know if you find any connections. Thanx!!!! Lianne

Barbara- Hi- sorry it has taken a month to check the message board. My grandfather was Joseph Paul Takach, Sr. and he was a coalminer. He lived in Jeddo Japan, Pa just outside Freeland. He came from a large family, including a brother named Andrew & sister named Margaret. If this sounds familiar or familial let me know- I've sort of hit a brick wall. Thanx! Lianne

Lianne, according to the map, Frackville and Freeland are about 30 miles apart. I will check with my mom to see if she had any aunts or uncles there. It would be quite a coincidence if she didn't since my grandfather was a coalminer as well. I know he had a farm in Pottsville for a while as well. Then, they moved to Frackville. I'll let you know.

My grandfather Andrew Takach came from Czeckloslovakia and lived in Jessup, PA. He worked in the coal mines and died of black lung. He had 8 (i think) sons and daughters. FYI. Jessup is in northeastern PA.
