My Taibi ancestors immigrated from Racalmuto, Sicily to Niagara Falls, NY.

There is a family story about our ancestors being the children of a ruling Baron at the time. Because the Baron was murdered, the priest of the three children changed their last name since they were next in line and he thought they would be murdered also. The murderer was the person who followed them in line to be Baron.

I am guessing other descendants of this family might have heard a similar tale? Anyone? Any truth to it or is it all fabricated?

What I have found in original Racalmuto records is that Francesco Taibi and his brother, Angelo, were both adopted. They were not born with the last name "Taibi." What I am unclear on is if they were adopted by their real father (which did happen) or if it was someone else altogether.

Unfortunately, I can't trace our roots far with name changes! Thanks for any hints...

Hi,
MY mother's maiden name is Taibi and they were all in New york city. My grandmother tod her and anyone who would listen that we were born from royalty, but I never heard the story about the illegitimate kids. This line came from Palermo, Sicily. I now have Taibi cousins in Kansas City, Greenville, SC and Long Beach, CA

Thanks for the reply! I am assuming your grandma was a Taibi?

My great-grandma's dad was one of the children whose names were changed. He was Francesco "Frank" Taibi, born in 1879 in Sicily. He had a brother named Angelo Taibi born in 1882. There was supposedly a third brother, but maybe he stayed in Sicily or moved elsewhere. My family doesn't have record of him. Perhaps that could be where your family fits in? Or maybe I'm just hopeful :)

Frank Taibi and Carmela Carlino had girls: Calogera "Carrie" (1907,) Angeline "Marlene" (1914,) Assunda "Susie" (1915,) and Mary (1923.)

Angelo Taibi and wife (Cannizzara?) had boys: Angelo Paul (1909), Jim, Frank and Tony.

So let me know about your side a little... who came over? what generation? Thanks!

I would be interested in hearing more about this royalty thing. Maybe I'm a long lost heir?!

My grandfather was Jim Taibi. He passed away a number of years back, but his brothers Frank and Tony, my great uncles, are indeed still in the Niagara Falls area.

Jim has three decendants: my mother, Lynda, her brother David, and her sister, Elaine. David has two sons, so the Taibi name lives on.

I'd really like to hear how you all fit into the family and what else can be found out about our pre-Francesco Taibi orgins. Please contact me at paulandkelly76@yahoo.com

The parents of Angelo Taibi and Francesco Taibi are:

Paolo Taibi and Calogera Facciponte.

This is from Angelo's SSN application.

Can anyone find info on these parents? I haven't been able to, but it doesn't appear that they immigrated to the US...

I would suggest requesting the Racalmuto microfilms from the LDS' Family History Center in your area. They have good records that are scanned for Racalmuto. I went through them to pick out my Taibi's from the mix.

I don't think our families are closely related, although perhaps distantly. My g-g-grandfather was Francesco Taibi born 1879, his brother was Angelo born 1881.

Their parents were Paolino Taibi (1864) and Calogera Facciponte.

Paolino's parents were Fedele Taibi (1836-1881) and Calogera Tulumello (Fedele and Calogera also had a son named Antonio (1879-1895) and daughter named Concetta Maria.)

Finally, Fedele's parents were Paolino Taibi and Nicoletta Amato. (Paolino and Nicoletta had other children named: Maria Giuseppa, Alberto, Giovanni and Luigi.)

I got all of that from reading through the microfilms... You could be related from one of these other branches, but the names don't sound similar enough to be my side.... I'm curious what you find out if you do more research. Good luck and ask any questions you have.

my husbands great-great grandmother was Concetta Carlino. We still reside in Niagara Falls. Are you certain that her mother was Maria Assunta Sferrazza? Thanks!
