I don't know if she would be related to my grandfather, but I will check with my cousin, who still resides in West Virginia, and my aunt. I think Catherine, if related, would probably be a cousin to my Dad. My grandfather, John Tahaney, was probably born in the late 1870s or early 1880s, since my grandmother was born in 1881. I'll post what I find out on the message board.

Hi Charlotte, I believe my grandmother and your grandfather were brother and sister. My grandmother was Catherine Tahaney married to Bruce Kephart. Her brother was married to a Savilla Gray. From what I understand he was killed in some sort of accident and Savilla later narried his younger brother James. Please let me know if any of this rings a bell.

Hello Patrick, Was wondering if you have any info on Catherine Tahaney. She is the sister of John and James Tahaney. Also had brothers Patrick, Michael, Daniel, and Martin. Sisters were Agatha, Margaret, and Edith.

No info on these (yet)but it's interesting that the names repeat in the Tahaney family. My youngest daughter is Katherine, but goes by Katie. I have a brother John and a brother Michael. The John Tahaney you refer to....was he from Parsons W. Va.? Died in 1914 in a work accident? If so, that was my grandfather. His oldest son, Charles Joseph, is my Dad. See http://www.pntservices.com/tahaney.htm

Hi Patrick, I'm not sure exactly when John died, but from what i understand he was killed in an accident while working for a railroad. His wife Savilla then married his younger brother. In trying to do the research on my family I have found the repeat of first names happens alot more than I expected.

Hi. I'm Patrick's sister...older sister...only sister:-) Savilla, our grandmother, was first married to John, then when he was killed in an accident, she married his brother, James. She had four children by John: Genevieve, Charles (our Dad), Edgar (Ed), and John Stedman; by James, she had two: Helen and Robert. All are deceased except Helen, who is 87, will be 88 in September.
