Taffs from Florence, Wisconsin
I am interested in sharing and gaining information about the Taff family of Florence County, Wisconsin. My great-grandfather is William E. Taff who came from Ireland. He married Anna M. Giesen who was born in Germany. I would be interested in any history for my great-grandparents.

Re: Taffs from Florence, Wisconsin
Hi Beth, Anna Giesen's grandfather John Giesen (b 1799 or 1805- d 1862) is my great, great grandfather. His son Michael was father to Arnold Geason who is father to Richard Geason. Who is my father. Michael's brother Hubbard (Arnold) daughter is Anna Giesen. My wife Carolyn and I were up in Florence and met up with Billy Taff in September. We acquired the Taff family history and do have the Giesen family history only going back to John Giesen (1799-1862. Yes please share with us any additional info. John Geason

Correction for Taffs from Florence, Wisconsin
My original message is incorrect. Through further research, I have found that William Taff and Anna Giesen were not born in Ireland and Germany. William Taff was born in Geneseo, Illinois, and Anna Giesen was born in Richfield, Wisconsin.

Re: Correction for Taffs from Florence, Wisconsin
Hi: I am researching a James MEEHAN b Canada abt 1843-1846 who married a Mary Jane TAFF b Illinois abt 1854. They lived in Marinette WI on 1881 Census.
According to a family story James MEEHAN left Canada abt 1863 to join US Army, he was woounded, stayed in USA in WI and had 9 children - all red-heads.
Does this sound familiar?

Re: Correction for Taffs from Florence, Wisconsin
Jerri, I don't have much information for James Meehan. I have him marrying Mary Jane (Jenny) Taff in about 1874. They had 9 children whose names I have as George, Fred Charles, Charles, James, John, Frank, Kate, Bessie, and the ninth I have listed as only female. I have James Meehan's death as February of 1921. I don't have any other information beyond that. Beth

Re: Correction for Taffs from Florence, Wisconsin
Hi Beth: Thanks for the reply. Do you know where they were married? I see on the 1881 census that Mary Jane was from Illinois and the first 4 children: George, Kate, William and Nellie Meehan were born in Ohio. Then on 1900 the other children: James, John, Bessie, Frank, Charley are listed as born WI. There is also an adopted daughter Lennie Grace.
I was hoping to see if this is indeed the James Meehan I am searching for. My Meehan family has James with a brother George T(homas) and James mother is Bessie Magee. The father is Patrick Meehan. They were living in Belleville, Ontario, Canada in 1863 when James went to join the US army.
