I'm looking for information on the ancestors of Emmanuel Tafel, who I believe was the son of Louis Herman Tafel. Both were ministers in the Swedenborgian Church of the New Jerusalem. Does anyone have data on this line which seems to have strong connections to Philadelphia, PA?

I'm doing this work for a friend who is a descendant of this family.

I am a new subscriber to Ancestry.com and came across your 2006 posting regarding Immanuel Tafel. I am the great grandson of Louis Herman Tafel and have been researching the Tafel/Boericke/Dutt families for the past several years and would be interested in corresponding with you. Please respond letting me know your interest at your earliest convenience.

Hello there...
Your message was a surprise. Sorry to be so slow in responding, but we're travelling this week, doing genealogy in NY, and visiting kids here. I don't have my TAFEL database with me on this trip, so details will have to wait until I get back to Michigan on Tuesday evening. I did this TAFEL research for a friend who is a fellow snowbird in south FL, but who lives in Chicago the rest of the time. I worked on his genealogy the year I did that post, and I have a fair amount of data, at least on his line. I believe I have Louis Herman in my database, and I have those lines back early in the 19th century and the time of Immanuel Swedenborg -- a theologian who had immense influence on that whole TAFEL clan. I'll get back to you soon when I get home.

I appreciate receiving your response to my post regarding Immanuel Tafel (my grandmother's brother). The Tafel family information in my files goes back to Tobias Friderich Tafel (born approximately 1612). I look forward to corresponding with you!

I tried communicating with the TAFEL family association in Germany when I was working on this line and, assured that I'd hear from the historian for the association after their annual meeting that year, nothing ever happened. I did have some correspondence with some of the folks associated with the Swedenborgian church in this country, but they weren't able to be of much help. I know Leonard Tafel in Mt. Prospect, IL, would be pleased to have his line back further than I was able to go. His dad, grandfather, and brother are/were all pastors in the Swedenborg church.

My family tree shows Immanuel & Margaret Tafel and sons Leonard & Robert. My grandmother (Immanuel's sister) passed away in 2007 at the age of 102 and was the last surviving child of Lewis Hermann Tafel. I have been working on family history for the past 15 years and would be pleased to provide whatever information I can. I look forward to corresponding with you!

OK... you must be descended from Anna Tafel. I'm working for Leonard Immanuel, b. 1936 in Toronto. You and he are second cousins. He and his wife winter with us in south Florida and presently live in Mt. Prospect, just NW of Chicago. When I did this work a few years ago, I got back to Sebastian Tafel, b. 1480, d. 1520. Not much detail that far back, but I do have what I have, and most of it is pretty well documented.

Let's correspond directly. I'm at rcsnyder2@earthlink.net. Ignore my spamblocker, I'll get your message and then I can add you to my address book. -- Bob

I would like to collaborate on Tafel and Boericke connections. My wife is a Boericke, descended from Johann Friedrich Leonard Tafel (1800-1880).

You can reach me at clay at mcqueens.us.

Thanks!

Hmmm... I hit something and lost my response to you. I'm responding to you via the message board for tonight, and will respond further early next week. I'm on the road right now and a response isn't practical. I did this work several years ago, and will need to resurrect what I did. We'll see our TAFEL friends for whom I did this work, tomorrow, and we'll be near each other for the next three months in south Florida. Until next week, I am,
Sincerely
Bob Snyder

Bob:

Thanks! No rush.

I think one of your earlier posts mentioned the Tafel family association. I was a dues-paying member for a year or two, but didn't keep up with it. Somewhere I have some newsletters and contacts. Would that information be of help to you?
