Mandy:

Here is the information that I have on Steve and Stella Tadaj of Cleveland, Ohio. According to the 1920 Census, it appears that they resided on East 23rd Street.

I have five daughters listed, Mary, Jennie, Antonia, Lydia and Stella. I had come across Stauislav Tadaj coming in through Ellis Island on April 15, 1913. While I am not sure if the two are the same person, the Ellis Island record said that Stauislav was 29 years old, which puts his year of birth at 1883-1884. The 1920 Census puts Steve's year of birth at 1882-1883. The Ellis Record also indicated that his final destination was Cleveland, where he would stay with his brother. His place of Residence is listed as Locara Russia. (Just in case you wish to know, the ship he arrived on was teh Kaiser Wilheim. Stella (Stanislawa) arrived on the the George Washington along with "Marianna" and "Janisca")

I also have a copy of a death certificate for Stanislaw Tadaj of 928 E. 70th street. His date of death is April 22, 1922. His date of birth is listed as just a year, 1883. His parents are listed as Peter Tadaj and Antonia Pregryza (unsure of spelling of mother's last name).

Some marriage information that may help you:

Mary married Stanley J. Tanski
Jean (Janisca) married John Cudnik
Antonia married Francisc Golinski
Stella married Stanley Kowalski

All of these occured in Cuyahoga County. I currently have a request in with the county asking for copies of the marriage bans for these couples, along with others. I would be glad to share them with you when they arrive.

Did your message also indicate another Daughter, Helen? I have come across a few Helen Taday's in my research.
Helen Taday married Julius Zaidinski (1881-1964) and another Helen Taday (1923-1978) who married George Manak (1916-1969). I also found a Helen who was the wife of Joseph Taday. Unfortunately, the only Helen Taday that I am sure of my relation to married my father's uncle Charles. And I can find no information on her.

I got the death certificate for Stanislav from the Ohio Historical Society. They have death certificates for Ohio Deaths up to sometime in the 1940's. The also have a death index which covered up to 1937 (or thereabouts).

There website is http://www.ohiohistory.org/index.html.

Your grandmother Helen was married to both Julius and George? That answers my previously unanswered questions of who these 2 Helen's were.

Do you mind sharing who Stella (the senior) also married. Was one of them a man with the last name Black?

I started doing my research around Christmas time last year. My great grandparents were burried in Calvery Cemetery but my grandparetns were burried in All Souls. Both my grandparents were laied out at Jacubs Funeral Home in Euclid. Not sure about my other relations. I do know that when my great aunt Sofie Taday passed away in 1999, she was not laid out at Jacubs, I do not know where she was because I found out about it after the fact (my family was up in Cleveland for my mother's mother's funeral). I will ask my folks if they are familiar with Cudniks Funeral home.

forgot to answer your question.

I am not from the Cleveland area but my parents were born and raised there. My father was in the navy so I never lived in the city but always came to visit with relatives.

I talked w/ my folks to see if they were familiar with, or if any of my Taday's were laid out at Cudnik's Funeral Home. They are not aware of what funeral parlor the family used while they were growing up.

My mother remebers that her brother, Thomas Kowalski, used to hang out with a Ron Cudnik while they were in school. My father, Alexander Taday, would have also have hung out with him as well but is drawing a blank on the name at the moment.
