Hi!

I am looking for any info. on my grandfather's side of the Tacey family.

My Grandfather's name was James Edward Tacey.
His father(my g-grandfather) was Harry Robert Tacey. Harry's father(my g-g-grandfather) was Edward Green Tacey.

My grandfather his father were coal miners.

My grandfather was proud of his Irish heritage. I don't know if the Irish was on the Tacey side or if it was on his mother's side.

My mother has a very old picture of Jefferson Tacey. I don't know how he fits into the picture.

If you are related to these Tacey's then we are related we could exchange info. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail me at www.JRennee@aol.com" target="_blank">www.JRennee@aol.com. Thanks.

I'm looking for information on Francis (Frank) Tacey b. 1817, Canada. He married Catherine Jennings, b. Michigan. They were married in MI in 1850. Their children: Louisa, b. 1852; Alice, b. 1860; Emma, b. 1864; Malinda, b. 1868; William, b. 1872. All were born in Michigan. Alice Tacey was my great-grandmother. She married John James Clarke in 1875, Duluth, MN. This is a hard name to research and not a common name! I would appreciate any information at all on the Tacey family. Thanks! LS

Tacey - a hard name to find

I also agree Tacey is a hard name to research. My grandfather had 2 daughters, so he doesn't have anyone to carry the Tacey name on.

Do you know what nationality your family is from? The only reason I ask is that sometimes I wonder if Tacey was short for something else or if it was spelled or pronouced differently in some other country.

I have always thought Tacey was Irish.

I have to send away for James, Harry Edward Green Tacey's birth certificates. As far as I know my Grandfather, his brother sister were born in Westerport,MD. His father Harry was born in Winchester, Va or Harpers Ferry, Va.

The Jefferson Tacey that my mom has an old picture of is listed in the mormon website www.familysearch.org. There are a few Tacey's listed there, you might want to take a look at.

I believe there was an Green Tacey Edward Tacey in there also.

Jefferson's parents are listed as George Jane Tacey from England. Also, I think he had a brother named George William, because they have the same parents.

Also in FamilyTree maker shows Jefferson Tacey on the 1860, 1870 Va. census'.
I also thought I had seen that George William lived in Va had a son named George also.

If you find any websites or info on Tacey please let me know. Thanks.

Our Taceys or for example the names above were derived from Tessier which is French. Our ancestor was Urbain Tessier who came to Montreal from France. I, too have a ggggrandfather named Frank Tacia who came from Canada to the United States. The americans changed his spelling from Tessier to Tacia obviously a phonetic spelling of Tessier. There is a huge account of the family in Ancestry.com. You can try this. There are some great sites and a Tessier Family Forum on the internet also.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. The only info I have is that a Frances (Frank) Tacey, b. 1817, Canada. In 1850 he married Catherine Jennings (?)in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Catherine was born in Michigan. Their children were Louisa, Alice, Emma, Malinda, and William. The girls were born in Michigan and William in Minn. Alice was my great-grandmother who married James M. Clarke in 1875, Duluth, MN. My aunt says that she always thought her grandmother's names was Casey. I don't know if the Tacey's were Irish or French. My aunt also says the Caseys/Taceys were Irish. If I learn anymore, I'll let you know. Thanks again!

were Harry Robert Bridget Ann (Mayhew)
Tacey, g-uncle John Robert Tacey are all
buried in Old Stone Church Cemetary. Also, it
is believed but I am not sure that Edward Green Sarah Elizabeth (Renner) Tacey are buried in Old Stone Church Cemetary.

That's were I am at a stand still. I do not know who Edward's parents were. My Tacey family came to Wheeling aprox in the 1920's (I would have to check notes). I believe they came from Winchester,VA Harper's Ferry,(W)VA maybe even MD.

i have found he was born in Eng came over

If anyone needs dates from my relatives or location of where they are buried at in Old Church Cemetary, let me know.

the letters state that he was a Jolly Ole Soul..always friendly..and played the Fife...
HE also had a pet black snake..in his Gunsmith shop..My Great Grandfather James Cavey..(Rebecca's son)..hated to go near because of his fear of snakes!!
