I noticed that you have been compiling Taaffes in the Tubber area of Clare. There is a living Taaffe family there who, I think, will know quite a lot about the history of this family. Contact me if you are interested.

My gggrandmother Mary Taaffe was born in 1841 in Shanballysallagh, Kilkeedy Parish, Clare, to George Taaffe Jr. and Mary Murphy. She had two sisters Bridget and Anne. This info was from the Tubber Church records. By 1855 and Griffith's there were no longer any Taaffes in Shanballaghsallagh. I have someother bits and pieces from the Clare Heritage Centre if you are interested.

My Casey and Howard ancestors also came from the townland of Shanballysallagh in Tubber in Co.Clare (see http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pcasey/) and I'm familiar with the area and know the Taaffe family there. Did you locate the Taaffe house in Shanballysallagh on the 1830s Ordnance Survey map ?

I have a James Vincent Taaffe in my family tree. He was my great-grandfather and father of Louis Vincent Taaffe, born 1886.

Do you know any more about these two individuals, e.g. where they lived ?

I have Louis Vincent's Marriage certificate, on which it states that he lived at # 13 Clephane Rd, Canonbury (Islington), London. His job is stated as Commercial Traveller. James Vincent's profession is only listed as 'of independent means.' As Louis V. was 38 years old when he got married, I would assume that he lived elsewhere than the abode of his father (which I haven't got - sorry.)

Hope this helps.

I wonder if your James Vincent Taaffe is the person referred to by Pat in her recent post ("Does anybody connect to a J Vincent Taaffe who was in London circa 1900, probably in the civil service").

You might like to compare notes with her.
