I am so excited. My gggf I am told is James Taaffe married to Alice English but from what I understand they lived in Arkansas and there is a Taaffe cemetary in Forman Arkansas with nothing but Taaffe' buried there. My parents moved to Oklahoma from Arkansas. I've not been to the cemetary, but I do have access to it. Want to hear more.

What little bit of information I have my uncle found in Burke's Irish Family Records, pp.1096-1098. From what I can guess from what I read, there was a James Taaffe who lived in Co. Louth at Peppardstown who was deprived of his estates by Cromwell. He had four sons: John, George, Peter and Lawrence. It says nothing of what happened to James--whether he left Ireland or what; it does say that the son John married and had several children, but no names were given; George lived in Co. Meath. His family was quite distinguished but apparently never left Ireland; a long line of descendants. My uncle figures that, if we are descendants of this family, it is believed that our line would trace to James.
I received a reply to one message that there are a couple of families named Taaffe in Co. Meath still, near Kells. I've not figured out yet how to contact them!
This stuff is so interesting! And I'm "meeting" some really neat people through these message boards. One woman wrote that she lived in the Bay area of California and that there were lots of Taafes there. Wow. I don't really know where to jump in--think I'm already in deep water and don't know which direction is UP!
But I'll just keep replying to messages and see what I/we can all find out and put together. Thanks for replying!

Thanks for replying! The original Peter and James and "No-Name" Taaffe landed in Virginia; Peter settled near Wardensville. Evidently was quite a pioneer--moved a lot and died in Missouri! His son, Peter, Jr., I guess, was the one that fought in the Revolutionary War. I'm still researching in my uncle's book for more information. I'll get back to you later, OK?

we possibly are cousins...if what emily says is true, then james and peter (jr) were brothers. i know peter fought in the am revolution. my grandmother, ales taafe was born in youngstown ohio. her mother, jane mcclean fresh off the boat from ireland, married a peter taafe. i am going back to ohio tomorrow to visit and will carefully go over the taafe bible which is in my mother's possession. perhaps i will find something.
thus far, i have peter (jr) married ?
son, richard lewis taafe, married jane mcclean and daughter, ales (alice) taafe who is my grandmother and i am her name sake.

I was told that James K. Taaffe married Alma Humphrey Preistary is the son of George Sloan Taaffe who married Sara Jane English, the daughter of Joseph English. They came to America and and somehow ended up in Arkansas around 1836. Supposedly he was one of the 1st Arkansas Legislatures.

George also had a brother named Francis Taaffe. There was a Francis Taaffe who was a lawyer that lived in Idabel, Oklahoma, but died a few years back. My grandpa was named Tobe Taffee and his father was Tobe and his father was James K. Taaffe.

This is a very odd name (Taaffe)for there not to be some connections.

I am just as you are, so astound with all of this, I just don't know whats what. Sometimes in the near feature, I am going to Foreman, Arkansas and visit this cemetary that has nothing but Taaffe's buried there.

Stay in touch.

I'm wondering if there's some connection: my grandfather was James Gregory Taaffe, born around 1879. He named his daughter Anne/Ann. She named a son Thomas.

Hi! I think I've met you at one of our family reunions--possibly in Rolla, MO? Was it you and your husband who did the newsletter? I've always intended to sign up for that newsletter, but just never got around to it. My dad was James Taff, Homer's brother. I'd love to continue to correspond with you!
