My mother's family is from Baltimore, MD and uses the traditional Irish spelling of Taafe. My great-father, grandfather (born 1928) and uncle are named Joseph. My great-grandmother was Alice. While searching the message boards I noticed reference made to VA and PA, although none to the Taafes in MD. Does anyone know about this side of the family? I do not have much information about the history.

My great-grandfather was John "George" Taafe. He was a butcher in Balto. City. My grandfather was Leopold Theodore Taafe, and he had a brother named Joseph Taafe who was born in 1901. Would these people be related to you?

Are your parents Robert and Peggy of Sipple Ave.? If so, your grandfather was my grandfather's (Joseph)uncle. He called him Uncle Lee. The other siblings of Lee's were Otts (Adolf), John, Mary, and Helen. My grandfather thinks his grandparets were named John George and Tilly (perhaps Otelia). Does this sound right? If so, you are probably around my mother's age. Her name is Linda and her brother's name is Joseph. Do you live in MD? I live in TX. I hope to hear more from you. Thanks for the reply!

Stacey, you are the first Taafe that I am actually related to that I have been able to contact. This is great! My parents are Peggy and Robert (Bob). My mother is still alive and my father died in 1972. I am 50 yrs. old and just became a grandmother in May. From what I have been able to determine John "George" Taafe's wife's maiden name was Lena Othelia/Otelia (Shipling/Shipley/ Steinke - this last from my mother, the rest in various places). "Lena" (called this in various docs.)was born in Germany, and never spoke English according to my mother. Her father may have possibly been named Leopold -it is just given as "L. Shipling" on her death cert. George may have been born in Ala. and his father's name Bryant according to death cert. My email is LarryandCarolMyers@msn.com. I do live in MD and look forward to hearing from you. I know some more info about this generation, but not much. I would like to know about your branch of the family to add to my Taafe Family History.
