My grandmother, Ethel May Clark found out in 1931 when her "father", Will Clark died, that she had been adopted. She found out from the adoption agency (the Illinois Childrens Home and Aid Society) that she had been born 3/15/1905 as FRANCES SZANYI in South Chicago, IL. Her parents were Mike SZANYI and Mary SZANYI who died 3/21/1905. The record indicated that there were 9 children in the family but only 1 had been placed for adoption. The record did not list any other relatives but did list the pastors of the Hungarian Reformed Church at 8504 Superior Ave in South Chicago. By 1931, this church no longer existed and my grandmother was never able to find out anything about her real family. She past away in 1981.
I am tracing a DAVID SZANYI who was born in 1903-04 and in 1920 was living with the Stur and Elizabeth Elosh family at 11706 Sangamon Street in Chicago (David was listed as nephew). In 1930, David was living with his own family in East Chicago, IN. Also, I am interested if there is any connection with the Joseph SZNAYI family of Hammond, IN.
