hello, i am michael szaban and from what i have gathered, my great-grandfather ( from the ukraine/hungary) arrived in the u.s.a. in the early 1900's. i would enjoy sharing any information with you.

Thank you for the response. Tried to email you directly but got error message. Maria Szaban also spelled ( Szabanowicz) born 1867 is my grandfathers mother born in Gruzdovo aka Hruzdowo t. Today this is in Belarus between Lake Narocz and Pastavy. Very interested to hear any back ground of your family.

There are so few Szabans out there, that I would be very interested in piecing together some history as well. All I know at the moment is that my family lived in the north-eastern part of Poland in the early-to-mid 1900's. I'll try to find more details around this. Have you learned anything new since your last post?

As yet I have nothing new. Maria Szaban aka Szabanowicz, lived in Gruzdowo aka Hruzdovo, Chruzdowo now in Belarus. This is located near Lake Narocz in todays Belarus, not far from the Lithuanian border. This area was considered Polish Russia circa 1900. She was born circa Gruzdowo. Married "Frank" Rabalski. Died 1942.
Do you know the exact town your Szaban ancester came from? Or any information to located the place a little more closely? If not the name and any dates related could ne a clue. I would like to put your information on file to watch for connections. Happy rooting
