MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Ralph C. Sywassink, 80, of 3444 New Era Road, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at his home following a brief illness,
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Sweetland United Methodist Church. The Revs. Leland Eyres and Rev. Brenda Goodall will officiate. Pallbearers are his grandchildren. Burial will be held at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Memorials have been established in his memory for the Sweetland United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Iowa City.
Mr. Sywassink was born Nov. 17, 1920, in Muscatine, the son of Henry and Hattie Doerfer Sywassink. He married Beverly Moorhead Nov. 27, 1941, in Muscatine.
He was a lifelong resident of Muscatine.
He served on the Muscatine County Extension Council, was a Muscatine County Soil Conservation District Commissioner, a member of Muscatine County Farm Mutual Insurance Board for 18 years, served as Sweetland Township clerk for 46 years, Muscatine Farm Bureau, Lifetime member Sweetland Methodist Church, Past Master of the Masonic Lodge No. 2 AF & AM of Iowa and member of the Davenport Consistory and KAABA Shrine.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of Muscatine; two daughters, Phyllis O'Halloran and her husband, James, of Cedar Rapids and Joyce Schultz and her husband, Edward, of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Kevin Collins, Carmen O'Halloran, Jenny Schultz, Darrin Schultz, Nicholas Olson and Erin Olson; two brothers, Donald Sywassink and his wife, Dorothy, of Letts and Duane Sywassink and his wife, Beverly, of Normal, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Sharon Olson.

GARNETT, Kan. -- Esther W. Sywassink, 91, Garnett, formerly of Muscatine, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital, Overland Park, Kan.
Services are today at First United Methodist Church, Garnett. Burial will be at Garnett Cemetery. Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Muscatine. The Rev. Hal Green will officiate. After the services, a time of fellowship and lunch will be held in church fellowship hall.
Memorials may be directed to the Builders Class at First United Methodist Church or Wesley United Methodist Church. The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine, is in charge of local arrangements.
Miss Sywassink was born Nov. 12, 1912, in Muscatine, the daughter of Benjamin and Jenny Bruggers Sywassink.
She moved to Garnett in the early 1950s from Muscatine. She was a domestic caregiver for the elderly and young children.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Builders Sunday school class, former member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Garnett American Legion Auxiliary and A.A.R.P.
Survivors include two brothers, Albert Sywassink of Wilton and Harry Sywassink of Muscatine; a sister, Myrta Kaufmann of Muscatine; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Benjamin, James, John and David; and four sisters, Della, Johanna, Gertrude and Mary.

Graveside Service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at Greenwood Cemetery. Dr. Hal Green of Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Harry was born on September 12, 1911, in Muscatine, the son of Benjamin and Jenny Bruggers Sywassink. He married Margaret Gravatt on September 15, 1944, in Muscatine.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during World War II.
He worked at HON until his retirement in 1985, prior to that he had worked for Kautz Bakery.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and the American Legion.
Harry enjoyed farming and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sywassink of Muscatine; one son, Tom Sywassink and wife, Laura, of Muscatine; three grandchildren; one step-grandson; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Sywassink of Wilton; and one sister, Myrta Kaufmann of Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and five sisters.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Greenwood Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Margaret was born on February 4, 1917, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of William and Johannah Maisenbach Gravatt. She married Harry L. Sywassink on September 15, 1944, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2006.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed wood carving and jig saw puzzles.
Survivors include one son, Tom Sywassink and his wife Laura of Muscatine; 5 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bernice Gravatt of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband.
