Hi, I was born in Rothesay, Isle of Bute, Scotland. I now live in a village in Northamptonshire called Geddington. My grandfather originally came from Birkenhead, and myself and my two sisters, Elizabeth and Isobel would be interested in hearing from any Symes' in that area to see if we can trace our roots or to see if we have any relations still living there. My Father's name was John Allen, he had three brothers, Fred, Robert and James and one sister, Madge. According to the inscription on the family grave in Rothesay, James died in Birkenhead, why he was there we have no idea as all the rest of the family lived and died in Scotland.
My wife and myself have just retutned from touring Australia and New Zealand and whilst in Wellington we had an unusual experience! We caught the ferry back to Eastbourne to where we were staying with my niece, as we came off the ferry and started walking along the pavement we noticed the name Symes had been written, for posterity, in large letters in a concrete slab embedded in the pavement! Anyone in Wellington know anything about it?
Any Symes' who want to get in touch for a chat please do.
