Caroline Smith of probably Marion County, Tennessee married a Sweeton. The family stories are that she died in Arkansas and had several children. Also she might have died in the 1870's.

In the 1870 census in Searcy Co., Arkansas there is a Caroline Sweeton living with her son Moses and family.

Other children could have been Alexander, John W. Mary D., James A.

Is this Carolyn Smith Sweeton from Marion Co. Tennessee? Looking for her husband's name and dates of both of their deaths.

A few years ago a Chuck Smith had a web site for the Sweeten/Sweeton name. Can't locate that web site, does anyone have information on it?

Appreciate any help on this family.

Sue Mardres
In Maryland

Sarah (SWETON) TODD GOODWIN, b.c1826 (parents b.KY)

My great grandmother was Sarah Jane Sweton. She was born between 1826 and 1827. On her census information she said that she was born in Indiana or Illinois but that both of her parents were born in KY. I believe that she was related to Absolum Sweeton in Clay County, KY as his daughter or possibly the daughter of one of his male children. Sarah Jane was married to a Mr. Todd and after his death she married my great grandfather James Monroe Goodwin in 1864, who also lost his wife during that time while fighting in the Civil War. I also note that William Sweeton lived in Ozark County, MO in a time span after 1840. He was listed in the Taney County, MO census of 1840 and then moved to Ozark County. He was the son of Absolum Sweeton and was born in Clay County, KY. They lived in Indiana and Illinois prior to 1840. None of his children listed was Sarah Jane so she must be from one of his brothers or relatives. Any help would be most appreciated as I have just located this information and would like some help on it. I tried to contact some prior sources on your board but the e-mail addresses were no longer valid. Thanks for any help and have a Merry Christmas!
My e-mail address is: bob@colorgraphicsco.com

Bob Edmonson

1870 Fulton Co. AR= Sarah (SWEETON) GOODWIN (b.1833)

I was trying to send another message posting and somehow it was posted with no message. I wanted to follow up my message on Sarah Jane Sweeton to say that her tombstone has her born in 1833 and in the 1870 Fulton County, AR census when she was married to James M. Goodwin she had a child in her household named Davis. I have noted from some research that was a name of one of Absolum Sweeton's family in IN. I am hoping that this might help shed more information on Sarah Jane. Davis was 14 at the time of the 1870 Fulton County, AR census and William Sweeten lived in Ozark County, MO, which is near Fulton County, AR.

Bob Edmonson
