The original Swabys were a Germanic tribe. They were the Suevi who lived in what is now Southern Germany. They migrated notably to Normandie in France and were a large part of the army of William the Conquerer who invaded England in the 1200's. They became prominant in British history.
When the Normans took over England they appropriated the land of the Anglo Saxons (Roger de Swaby had land near Louth)- the de Swabys took over land near the village of Louth in Northen England. In Englands effort to pacify Ireland some of the Norman lords were given land in Northern Ireland- that county was named Louth after the British county from which they came.

There are Swaby decendants in Ireland today and were protestants called the Ango Irish. The Swabys in Britain today are descendants of the original invaders. There are Swaby grave markers in ancient cemeteries in Britain.

Roger de Swaby is listed in the Domesday book handwritten with all the Norman lords in all England. Written before the invention of the printing press.

Interesting history. Hugh Wood

I have an ancestor named Frances Swaby, b. about 1805 in Fotherby, Lincolnshire, England. She married Jonathan Denton. I have been unable to find her parents or anything about her family. I'd appreciate any help.
