Have made strides in obtaining information about my great-grandfather Frank Svach but am still trying to tie pieces together and find his roots. "History of Lee County, Texas" account by A.J. Blaha gave me a lot of clues for searching here, but haven't been able to document Frank's origins. I'll take any tidbit of associated information. You never know where the crucial clue will be. I found his naturalization papers from Burleson County, where he became a citizen in 1891, but there is nothing of substance recorded. "Subject of the Emporer of Austria" which included Czech lands/Moravia.

Frank Svach, may have been born Frantisek Slaby in Holesov, Moravia (Austria)per A. J. Blaha's record of what Frank's sons told him.
I understand that Svach/Schwach is a direct German translation of Slaby and means "weak".

On 1900 census he claims origin Austria & that he immigrated in 1881. However, my grandmother, his oldest, was born 1879 and family lore is that she was born on the ocean passage. He was married to a Marie Simik, birthdate given as 1854 on headstone. They were in Lee & Burleson Counties. She died 1884 in Lee County, and he married a Theresa Jarma. They had at least two children in Lee County before moving to Waller County, where they remained. Theresa died in 1922 & he immediately remarried to an Ernestine Kralanowski (sp?) and they had one son before Frank died of a self-inflicted gunshot 1923.

I don't know if I can help or not. My grandfather is John Svach, and I know I have a great grandmother, Anne Svach, but we have all lived in the Chicago area as far as I know. But I have heard the name Frank Svach.

Thanks so much for your reply. Since I posted that request I have gathered a great deal more information. There remains the possiblity of a family connection because that isn't a very common name.

My Frank Svach/Schwach's family is from Frystak, near Holesov in Moravia. He married Marie Simik from Lukov, a small village outside of Frystak. There is a Svach in that ancestry also. Do you have any information on where in Czechoslovakia your family is from? Bohemia or Moravia? Frank & Marie & their oldest daughter Klara immigrated through Balitmore in June 1881 on the "Leipzig" and from there to Texas. I would guess they took a transcoastal steamer as that seems much easier and faster than trying to come overland to Texas, and was a common practice at that time. If we can find any matches that would be cool. I think Frank was rather a "black sheep" from the stories I have gathered.

My grandfather's family came from Bohemia. My Grandma made out a whole family tree for me. I have it somewhere, if I can find it I'll let you know. I believe her maiden name was something like Cerventka, but I could be really off on the spelling. Her family was from Bohemia as well.

I just received information on my grandmother's family. Seems a Petr(Peter) Svach, Velke Bilovice, married in 1883 a Rozina Bena. Her parents were Frantisek Bena and Mariana Pecuch both from Velke Bilovice. Any help?

Is the town (Belke Vilovice) you mention in the vicinity of Frystak or Holesov in Moravia? If so, there is a good chance there is a connection. Thanks.
