Searching for information about Frank Marie (maiden name not known) Svach who immigrated from Moravia to Texas in 1870's. They had a daughter Mary in 1874 who imigrated with them, and another daughter Klara (my maternal grandmother) was born on the passage. Mary married a William Kunetka. Marie died a few years after arriving in Texas Frank re-married at least once, to a Teresa Jarma had several children with her, and possibly was married a third time. One source suggested he was born Frantisek Slaby changed his name on arrival in this country settled in Lee County, Texas. We know there was land in Brazoria County because of family oil royalties. Any information would be appreciated. Please contact me by e-mail.

Since November I have found that Frank (Franc) Svach (also found spelled Swach, Schwach, Swack, etc) was married to Marie or Mary Simik, who dies in 1884. He then married Theresa Jarma, they had 6 children, 1 of whom died as small child, Theresa died 1922, he married a third time to an Ernestine Krolanowski, and a son was born in 1923 Frank died of a gunshot wound in 1923. This all occurred in Lee Waller counties with the third wife being from Washington county. Seems to be getting more more complicated. Any information would be welcome.

I'm looking for the origin of this name.My oldest known ancestor came to Missouri about 1860. He served in the Civil War. Jacob Schwach supposedly came from Europe with a brother. I know he was born in Prussia in 1839 or 1840.

This is one of the spellings used in papers which refer to my great-grandfather in Lee County, Texas.
The information I have is that he came from Holesav in Moravia I have not seen documentation). It is my understanding that SVACH is the Austrian/German translation of SLABY, his original name. VERY LITTLE INFO>

Your info may be correct. I do know from 1860/1870...census records that my grandfather was born in Prussia and not Austria. However, my great grandmother was born in Bohemia,Austria. And they were married before they migrated the the US in about 1860.

That whole are was variously known as Austria, Prussia and Austro-Hungarian. The US census shows Frank Svach gave his origin as Austria, but if he was born in Holesov in Moravia as information suggests, this would have been part of the Austrian empire at that time. Also SCHWACH is a Germanic spelling. Other variants on the name I've found--Svack, Svak, Schwak, Cvach...so any and all are possibly related. If you can get any more specific info let me know. I have found more in this country but still haven't made the connection to Europe or the emigration. Do you know anything about where when your grandfather came over--if there is a relationship, it might help me track. Thanks. Pat Lyon

Frank Svach, Schwach, Svak, Swak, Swach, et al
Current level of knowledge on Svach family only includes time in Texas and then only from about 1880 and after. Arrival was sometime in 1879 according to what we believe. Where he arrived is unknown. The records of his early days are sketchy but what there is was found in Burleson & Lee Counties. After 1892, when he moved to Waller county, more is known. I am in contact with Stasny cousins who still live in Waller county. Frank's daughter Agnes married a Stasny. The cousins are same generation removed from Frank Svach as me, he was our great-grandfather, but we had different great-grandmothers. I have identified the gravesite, know cause of death, self-inflicted gunshot wound, and so forth. Still no progress on finding his origins in Czech, Moravia or Slovakia. Have only hearsay and little of that to go on.
