St. Vincent Archabbey

Brother Frederic Supek, OSB, a monk of St. Vincent Archabbey, died Sunday, April 17, 2011.
He was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., May 3, 1935,
the son of the late Stanley and Emily Supek.
He is survived by his sisters, Mrs. Theresa Quarantillo, of Lewiston, N.Y.,
and Mrs. Ann Tweed, of Youngstown, N.Y.
He attended Our Lady of the Rosary Parochial School and Bishop Duffy High School. He served four years in the Navy and attended Niagara University before entering the monastic community at St. Vincent Archabbey. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from St. Vincent College in 1965, and a Master of Divinity degree from St. Vincent Seminary in 1968. He made simple profession of vows on July 2, 1963, and solemn profession of vows on Jan. 6, 1968. His service to St. Vincent Archabbey includes serving at the priory in Brazil from 1969 to 1982, where he was treasurer, director of vocations, master of novices, director of the retreat house and gardener. He returned to Latrobe and from 1982 to 1984 served in the post office. He moved to the library in 1984, and also served as assistant to the director of maintenance at St. Vincent Archabbey, and director of purchasing for St. Vincent College and St. Vincent Seminary. In 1998, he was named associate director of facilities management. In 2009, he was named a consultant in the facilities management office. The body of Brother Frederic will be received at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Elizabeth J. Roderick Center. Viewing will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the parlor of the Roderick Center. The body will be transferred to the Basilica for the vigil service at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday by Archabbot Douglas R. Nowicki, OSB, in the Archabbey Basilica, followed by the rite of committal in St. Vincent Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Benedictine Health and Welfare Fund of St. Vincent Archabbey, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Latrobe, PA 15650.
