Edward C. Suman Sr. of 204 Ross Street, Blairsville, passed away at his home Monday, December, 19, 1961, after a lingering illness.
He was born in New Alexandria, Pa. February, 5 , 1879, son of W. John and Sarah Weister Suman. He was retired molder of the Latrobe Foundry Machine and Supply Co., Member of the Hebron Lutheran church, Blairsville.
He is survived by his wife, Maude C. Kirkland Suman; three sons; Roy N. Suman Jr. of Belle Vernon; W. John of Mansfield, Ohio, Edward B of Blairsville; two daughters; Mrs Ray (Louise) Ramsden of Blairsville and Mrs Robert (Betty) Zimmer of Blairsville; on sister Mrs Mary (Ella) Clawson of Blairsville,; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Richard K Shoemaker Funeral Home Blairsville After 7 p.m. today and services will be held there at 2 p.m Thursday December 21. The Rev James M Robbins will officiate and interment will follow in the Blairsville Cemetery.
Maude Blanche Kirkland Suman , 89, of Blairsville, died Monday Dec 22, 1975 at Indiana Hospital.
A daughter of the late James and Emma Dodson Kirkland, she was born March 8, 1866 at Johnstown.
Mrs Suman was a member of the Hebron Lutheran church, Blairsville, She was a lifelong resident of Blairsville.
Surviving are three sons, Roy, Blairsville, John , Mansfield, Ohio, Edward Jr. Blairsville, with whom she resided; two daughters Mrs. Ray (Louise) Ramsden, Blairsville, RD 2, Mrs Robert (Betty) Zimmers, Blairsville, 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Nellie Rosborough , Donora.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jr. in 1961; three daughters, Ruth, Marie, and Twila, a son Harry; three brothers, James, Harry and John; five sisters; Pearl, Margaret, Gertrude, Minnie and Myrtle.
The family will received friends 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p. m. Tuesday at the Richard L Showmaker Funeral Home, Blairsville, where services will be held in the chapel Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. E. Earl Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery

Edward Boyd Suman, 88, of Blairsville, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at his home. A son of Edward C. and Maude B. Kirkland Suman, he was born May 12, 1917, in Blairsville.
Mr. Suman was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville; Historical Society of the Blairsville Area.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald L. and wife Diana, Elders Ridge and William J. and wife Cathy, Black Lick; three daughters: Mary Ann Ofman, Armagh; Nancy Harris and husband Don Starusheim, Blairsville; Linda Richards and husband Michael, Avonmore; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Zimmers, Blairsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Meloy Suman, Jan. 5, 1989; son Thomas; son-in-law Ray Ofman; grandson Richard Ofman; granddaughter Mary Jo Ofman; brothers Roy and John; sisters, Louie Ramsden, Ruth Weaver and Marie.
Regina M Meloy Suman 71, of East Ross St., Blairsville, died Thursday, Jan 5, 1989, at the Latrobe Area Hospital.
The daughter of Thomas M. and Margaret Hammill Meloy, she was born Oct 31, 1917 in Blairsville.
Mrs Suman was a member of S. S. Simon and Jude Roman Catholic church, Blairsville, and had lived her entire life in Blairsville.
Mrs Suman had been an employee of Torrance State Hospital before retiring in 1981.
Surviving are her husband, Edward B. suman; two sons Ronald L , Elders Ridge; William J Black Lick; three daughters Mrs Raymond (Mary Ann) Ofman, armage; Mrs Elder (Nancy) Harris, Indiana; Mrs Russell (Linda) Wolf; Clarksburg, 13 grandchildren and seven great grand children; two brothers, Frank Meloy, Blairsville, John Meloy, Derry; and two sisters Mrs Milford (Mary) Murray, Blairsville; Mrs Martha Nicol, Connellsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents one son Thomas; three brothers, Leo, Joe and James and two sister, Bertha Barnes and Dorothy Horvath.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Richard L. Shoemaker Funeral Home, Blairsville, where a wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday at S. S. Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Roy N. "Smokey" Suman Sr., 73 of 48 E. Chestnut St., Blairsville, died Sunday August 12, 1984 at Latrobe Area Hospital.
A son of Edward and Maude Kirkland Suman he was born July 20, 1911 at Blairsville.
Mrs. Suman was a member of the Hebron Lutheran church and B.P.O.E. 406 of Blairsville.
He had been employed by American steel and Wire at Denora until his in 1960.
Surviving are his wife, Loretta C. Stiffler Suman a son R. Norton of Blairsville; a daughter, Mrs William (Shirley) Petro of Blairsville RD 4; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild; two brothers John of Mansfield, Ohio and Ed of Blairsville; two sisters, Mrs Ray (Louise) Ramsden of Blairsville RD 2 and Mrs Charles (Betty) Zimmers of Blairsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sister, Marie and Ruth; and a brother Harry.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today (Monday) and Tuesday form 2-4 and 7-9 p.m at the Richard L Shoemaker Funeral Home, Blairsville. Services will be in the chapel of the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev William E. Ordelt Jr. Will officiate. Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery.

Bairdstown Girl Drowns
Miss Marie Suman, 14, Lost Her Life Conemaugh River Thursday
Stricken with cramp while she was swimming in the Conemaugh River, about 300 feet from the Coketown Bridge, Blairsville, Thursday afternoon about three-thirty o'clock, Marie Suman, age 14 years, daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Suman of Bairdstown, sank and drowned before rescuers could reach her.
In company with Eva Folley , 13 and Violet Dumont, 12 Miss Suman left her home for a few hours frolic in the waters of the Conemaugh. first ready to enter the water, Miss Suman swam to the opposite sided and was on her way back to the Blairsville shore, when her friends saw her throw up her hands and disappear under the waters. Their screams attracted the attention of Clair Jellison and Joseph Polen of Blairsville, who securing a boat hastened to the scene. After thirty minutes work they succeeded in location the body, but life was extinct.
The deceased leaves her parents and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be conducted the Suman home Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, with interment in the Blairsville, Cemetery
Loretta Stiffler Suman, 71 of 48 E. Chestnut St., Blairsville, died Friday Dec 6, 1985 in the Latrobe Area Hospital.
A daughter of Raymond and Minnie Ickes Stiffer, she was born Dec 6, 1914 at Derry.
Mrs Suman was a member of Hebron Lutheran Church. Blairsville. She had been employed at Torrance State Hospital until her retirement in 1974.
Surviving are a son R. Norton Suman Jr. of Blairsville; a daughter, Mrs William (Shirley) Petro of Blairsville, RD 4; seven grandchild, on great grandchild, four brothers; John Stiffler of Butler, Kendall Stiffler of Penn Hills, Glenn Stiffler of Spring Church, and Fred Stiffler of Derry and two sisters, Mrs N. Hazel Tweed of Tampa, Fla, and Mrs Harry (Jean) Finley of Latrobe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Norton Suman Sr., in 1984; five brothers, and sisters; Charles, homer, Leila, Gladys and Mary Lucille.
Friends will be received form 7-9 p.m. today (Saturday) and from noon to 4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Richard L. Showmaker Funeral Home, Blairsville, services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Funeral Home Rev. E. Earl Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow in Blairsville Cemetery.
