Louis Suhl Obituary
(1870 – 1944)
Louis Suhl, age 74 years and a resident of Durant [Cedar County, Iowa] for more than 35 years died at his home here, Thursday, January 27 [1944], at about 6:00 a.m. following an extended illness.
Louis Suhl was born in Scott county near Walcott, April 3rd, 1870, and attended the rural and the Walcott schools.
He married Miss Wilhelmina Hass in Davenport, in 1897 [year given elsewhere as 1898]. Following their marriage, they lived on farms near New Liberty in Scott county and in Cedar county. Mrs. Suhl died in 1908, and in 1909 he retired from the farm and moved to Durant where for many years he operated the Suhl Hall. In 1929 he retired from active business.
He is survived by one son, Herbert with whom he made his home, two daughters, Mrs. C. W. McKillip of Durant and Mrs. Arthur Albertsen of Davenport; one grandchild, Marilyn McKillip; three brothers, Julius and Henry of Stockton [Muscatine County, Iowa] and Herman of Durant; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Krone and Mrs. Catherine Paustian of Durant and Miss Emma Suhl of Stockton. Two sons preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Durant Chapel Saturday afternoon the Rev. Fred J. Rohlf of Rock Island officiating. The pall bearers were H. T. Diedrich, H. C. Diedrich, Ferd Dittmer, Frank Miller, John Leese and Ralph Scharpf. Mrs. Wm. G. Trede sang hymns. Burial was in the Durant cemetery.
