John Styborski, age 94, of Pulaski, Ohio for the past 45 years, and formerly of Cambridge Springs and Erie, died Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Edison Manor, New Castle, where he had resided since October of 2007. John was born in Sharpsburg, Pa., on October 6, 1920,
a son of the late Frank H. Styborski and Antonia Oleska Styborski. John was raised and educated in Cambridge Springs, Pa., and worked for the Keystone Ordinance Works and Carnation Milk Company before joining the United States Marine Corps, serving his country during World War II. A private, John worked with the Seabees, in the South Pacific, to prepare Tinian Island in the Marianas for the B-29 A-Bomb attacks on the Japanese homeland. He then proceeded to Ryukyu Island to prepare for the anticipated invasion of Japan. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to his home in Cambridge Springs, working for many years as an iron worker in Western Pennsylvania and in Florida. John was a member of the Bridge and Structural Ornamental Ironworkers Local #207 out of Boardman, Ohio. He was affiliated with St. James Catholic Church in Pulaski, Pa. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Whitely, whom he married on October 19, 1939, and who died on January 19, 1997. He also was preceded in death by eight brothers - Frank Jr., Ted, Mack, Alec, Henry, Edward, Leo, and Adam; a sister - Florence Yurcick; and a great grandchild - Stephanie Schumaker. He is survived by three daughters - Patty Zielinski of Erie, Betty Osterberg and her husband, Jack of Venango, and Dorothy Nagle and her husband, Bill of Elgin, Ill.; and a son - John E. Styborski and his wife, Deanne of Meadville; three sisters - Francis Taylor of Brockway, Pa., Mary Malinowski of Jefferson, Ohio, and Judy Novak of Chicago, Ill.; and two brothers - Paul Styborski of Indiana, Pa. and Stanley Styborski of Saegertown. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and many, many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home, in Cambridge Springs, on Sunday, June 7th from 2:00 until 4:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, in Cambridge Springs, on Monday at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend David Poulson, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow at Cambridge Cemetery, with full military honors.
