All,
Does anyone have any information/evidence about any
Stroup (or name variation) having died in
Huntingdon County, PA, or, Huntingdon,
Huntingdon County, PA: 1790-1800?
Last December, i posted to this forum asking if anyone has information/evidence that would link Michael
Stroup (known to have been in
Highland, OH and possibly hailing from Huntingdon, PA) with who his father is purported to be, "Adam/Michael/Adam Michael"
Stroup.
I have not found such a link.
I have found circumstantial evidence that the family was indeed in Huntingdon, PA:
1. 1793-FEB1794: Latest time that Elizabeth
Stroup could have married John
Sells in Huntingdon, and had their first born 9 mkonths later in DEC 1794 (assuming they married before she was pregnant).
2. 18MAR1794: Anthony
Stroup is given a land warrant for 400 acres (source:
Pennsylvania archives); Specifically, this is land somwhere in
Huntingdon County, and probably NOT the Town of Huntingdon,
Huntingdon County, PA.
3. Spring 1796: Anthony
Stroupe listed on the 1796 Tax Return for the new Borough of Huntingdon,
Huntingdon County (by law, the town has become a Borough: 29MAR1796) as a freeman living in the Borough of Huntingdon. The same return also lists two people in the town who are Hatters--which, potentially solves the riddle of where Michael learns to be a hatter.
Sometime between 1796 and 1799, both parents are assumed to have died, in Huntingdon, PA.
What i am looking for is the following: Does anyone have any specific information of any
Stroup (or variations) having died in
Huntingdon County, PA from 1790-1800? So far it is only a theory that Michael Stroup's parents died in Huntingdon, PA, or the county. Finding a deceased
Stroup in
Huntingdon County, PA in 1790-1800 would be a good lead to start with.
I am particularly interested in evidence of the death of
Simon Stroup,
Simeon Strap in this county.
Any help would be much appreciated.
