HILLS, Iowa -- Clara Mary Strabala, 91, Hills, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, after a short illness.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hills. The Rev. Lou Leonhardt will officiate. Burial will be at St. Vincent's Cemetery, Riverside. Pallbearers are Paul Fritz, Dale Strabala, Patrick Strabala, Rob Gerot, Tom Gerot, Nick Manrique and Victor Fritz. Honorary pallbearers are Jeanette Corpman, Janice Bobmanuel, Joyce Fritz, Kathy Fray, Carol Fritz, Linda Zilar, Mary Strabala-Adams, Andrea Nelson, Samantha Thompson, Rachel Krueger and Rebecca Whitaker. After the burial, a luncheon will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Hall, Hills.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. Wake Service, at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home, Riverside. Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospital or Regina High School in Iowa City.
Mrs. Strabala was born Aug. 8, 1912, in Marion County, the daughter of Stephen P. and Barbara A. Schneider Metz. She married Victor M. Strabala Oct. 14, 1936, in Bauer. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She lived in the Johnson County area since 1938 and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, The Altar and Rosary Society of Hills and the Rural Women.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, but loved making quilts for her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin V. Strabala of Kalona and Victor R. Strabala and wife Margaret of Oxford; four daughters, Regina A. Strabala of Davenport, Janet M. Fritz and husband Sylvester of Brighton, Sheila A. Gerot and husband Samuel of Riverside and Lenore J. Manrique and husband Gustavo of Iowa City; a daughter-in-law, Joan Strabala of Peoria, Ill.; a brother, Alban Metz of Lacona; two sisters, Mildred Thomann and Agnes Birrer, both of Riverside; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Martin; four brothers, Firmin, Victor, Joseph and Leo Metz; four sisters, Florence Frueh, Sister Mary Clarona, Esther Ernst and Rita Strabala; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Mary Corpman.

MESA, Arizona — Icel Strabala, of Mesa, formerly of Muscatine, died Saturday, April 4, 2009, in Mesa, Arizona.
She is survied by two sons, Richard Moore of Sneads, Florida, and Fred Kneer of Mesa, Arizona.
