I was wondering if anyone has been able to determine William Henry Stoop's parents. He was born abt 1805 in Pennsylvania; died 17 May 1879 in Monmouth, Jackson County, Iowa. He was married to Rebecca (possible last name is Spouce?) 02 Apr 1833 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They had 9 children: Sarah Jane Stoop (my line) born 19 Oct 1839 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and died 15 Mar 1918 in Orleans, Harlan County, Nebraska; Mary Ann Stoop born 12 Jan 1834 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and died 15 Apr 1898 in Antelope County, Nebraska; George Washington Stoop born 11 Jan 1838 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and died 24 Aug 1911 in Lakeside, Sheridan County, Nebraska; William H. Stoop born 20 Dec 1840 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and died 31 Jan 1916 in Elgin, Union County, Oregon; Margaret Stoop born 10 Aug 1842 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and died ?; Harriet H. Stoop born 12 May 1844 in Iowa and died 29 Jul 1903 in Falls City, Richardson County, Nebraska; John Stoop born 10 May 1847 in Iowa and died 27 Sep 1908 in Swink, Otero County, Colorado; Rebecca Stoop born 23 May 1849 in Iowa and died 27 Jan 1937 in Rifle, Colorado; Anna Stoop born 03 Sep 1852 and died 06 Mar 1889 in ?.

Do any of you have photos of anyone from this line? Sarah Jane Stoop was my 3rd Great Grandmother. She married John R. Clampett on 07 Oct 1858 in Monmouth, Jackson County, Iowa. Any help with this line would be welcome. Thank you!

It would be nice to know your name so I can respond properly. The only family of Stoop that I know of that changed their name was a Stoop family from Shamokin, PA. When their ancestor came to America, he spelled his last name as CZAP. This is how you spell Stoop in Polish, it is pronounced STOOP though spelled CZAP. To blend in and become "more" American, he simply changed the spelling to the more phonetic STOOP.

Long Shot/ Paul Stoop

I am researching my fiancees family and heard that his ggrandpa was born Charles Herscko (poss Herschkowitz) and was either german or austria. he came over around the turn of the century and changed his name to Paul Stoop because it was his bosses name. Anyone heard anything about this? Thanks!

Ancestry of William Stoope born 1802 Maryland

I have traced my family back to William Stoope, who married Amelia Startzman in 1827 in Washington County, Maryland. (In the 1850 census their last name is Stoop (in Richland Co., Ohio), but after that (in census data from Albion, Noble County, Indiana) it is spelled Stoops, as my family has always spelled it. I would like any information on his parents, siblings, etc. Thank you.

1902 Stoop Reunion in Bucks County, PA

In the 29 August 2002 edition of the Bucks County Courier Times, there was a news article under "Today in Bucks in 1902" which stated the following:

"The Stoop Reunion was held at Keysers, near Stoops corner, on Saturday. Those present were: John Watson and wife and son Yerkes, Henry Clark and family, Theodore Stoop and daughters, Mrs. Flore Trexler and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cornell, Miss Lizzie Lefferts, John Stoop, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Buckman, Miss Ada Reeder, Oliver Brooks and son, Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Clark, Mrs. Henry Stoop, Mrs. Terresia Saxton, Mrs. Emma Fell, Watson Stoop, Dewitt Lague, Mrs. J.C. Foster and son, Miss Ella Watson, Mr. and Mrs. Lovett, Mrs. Nannie Vandegrift, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Carver, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Slack and son, Miss Susie Booz, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Clayton, Miss Leedom, Mrs. Bessie Balderston, Miss Johns, Charles Llewellyn and Mr. McClure.

William - I am interested in the marriage between Catherine Stoop (daughter of John ) and Joseph B. Henry in Guernsey County Ohio in 1858. That Joseph Henry may be the brother of my 2nd great grandfather. My Joseph's father was Harmon Henry and they had a farm in Jefferson Twp. Harmon died in 1861 and Joseph only inherited some money, not the farm as one might expect for a first born son. Do you have any additional information? Thanks, Sherry

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately all I have is info surrounding their marriage. I know that Catherine remarried circa 1880 to someone with the surname Green. She is listed in Licking Co. death records as Catherine Green and passing 22 February 1881. What ever happened to Joseph B. Henry? I couldn't tell you. I think he passed away. I posted this notice as a "fishing" effort to see if anyone out there had any info. I am sorry I can't help you out with more info. I believe I located Catherine in the 1880 Ohio census as Kate Green in Granvill, OH. and a servant to Orran Trenier, a blacksmith.

I would also be interested in seeing what you have on the Stoop family. The oldest Stoop I have been able to trace is William "Henry" Stoop born about 1805 in PA who married Rebecca unknown.

I have a lot of information about the family Stoop name in Holland, The Netherlands dating back to the 1300's. I have found our that all of us with the Stoop family name are related in way or another. If you would like this information e-mail me back. I am looking for anyone with information about the death of a David Stoop, b. 26 Nov 1953, d. 18 Dec 1994 in Los Angeles. I fear this may be a childhood friend and schoolmate of mine from New Wilmington, Lawrence Co., PA, during the 1960s. Can anyone help on this?
