Hi Jonni. I have been in contact with your uncle Bobby C. He sent me a lot of photos and told me about his father Roy and mother Opal and his brothers. He sent me the photos of the Stoker family cemetery. I have some of your grandfather and his brother Willie at the cemetery, and a photo of your father when he was a young man. Darelene and Jimmy sent me the directions where the cemetery is located. I'm in Oregon so without their kind help, I would not have been able to get too far.
I can't figure out how to contact you since I do not have a paid account with Ancestry.com.
But Bobby C. has my email address as does his son Michael. I'd like to hear from you.
Thanks to a woman named Nan and others, I have learned a lot about our great grandmother Julia's family (the Thompsons, Edwards). If you ever go to "Family Tree Builder", your cousin Michael and I each have a chart on our Stoker ancestors going back to John Stoker born in 1666 who was married to Anne Wrighton in England. Hope to hear more from you. margie

Hello: My grandfather was William and Julia's oldest son Wade. How are you descended from William David and Julia? Or did you know him as Dave? When I began connecting with other Stoker relatives I was surprised to hear them refer to him as Dave. But since his father was also named William it makes sense.
After I received the cemetery photos, I was sent directions to the cemetery that I was able to follow on Google Earth. I am on the west coast so an in person visit is not possible. Thanks for responding to my post. margie

My information lists this Fred Stocker as James Frederick Stocker 1873-1910. He married Catherine Lonsberg and she was born in 1876. Children were Margaret G 1896, Madeline M 1898, Irvin F 1901 (known as Pike), and Mildred C 1904. His father is the one I'm researching. Frederick William Stoker (Stocker) born in 1873 and died in 1928. He was born in Rockford, Illinois He married Catherine Burns or Redmond born in 1844 in Canada. I have reached a dead end. Also confusing the issue is I was told that either Frederick or Catherine was adopted. Frederick lists his parents as German. Irving F Stocker had an elementary school in Kenosha, Wisconsin named after him. I hope I have helped you. Rebecca

Jefferson Stoker b 1803 KY

Looking for the parents of Amos J. Sparks b 1843 or 1845 probably in or near Nicholas County, KY, married Melissa Jane Slade in Harrison County, KY. According to his widow Jane’s pension application, Amos J. Sparks died 24 Dec 1870 in Harrison County.

In the 1860 federal census, Amos J. Sparks was 14 years old and living with Jefferson and Jane Stoker, each 56 years old (born 1804), in Nicholas County, KY. Apparently there was a Stoker connection to this Sparks family since Amos J. ended up living with Jefferson and Jane Stoker. I think Jefferson Stoker was previously married to Elizabeth Hornlack and is most likely the son of Edward Stoker (1757 - 1846.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Judy Bayless

I am interested in what you can tell me about why the Durham Stokers left England and came to the colonies, especially to Virginia and North Carolina. Also, can you tell me who came and when, so I can find out how the many Stoker families that are here are related? I am related to Robert Stoker and Ann Wrightson through Robert, Jr., Richard, James Allen, Charles Atkinson, and finally Appie Stoker (listed in descending order).

You're right; it's James Frederick Stocker and I had nothing on his parents until now, in your posting. I have Catherine Lonsberg's, mother as Margareth/Margaret Remy, born 1844 in Germany, France or Luxemorg, the daughter of Michael Remy and Katherine Herbert.

P.S. I had thought Uncle Irving, Pike, was the youngest.

I am William's great grandaughter. The article was in the WS Journal. I think I have a copy somewhere. He lived with my grandmother Bessie. I can recall hearing him talk about everything every day, read the newspaper and had strong opinions. He also walked to the store by himself. He was lucid and had no dementia to the night he died in bed. He was not ill. He awaken my grandmother in the middle of the night and said he was dying. She did not think this was true but he did die that very night. He was a small man about 5 foot 5 or 6. I heard he was a very tough man in his youth and made everyone do his bidding. He had a full head of hair, silver, to the end. I saw him every day. He always wore a suit.

In section 5 you have William's death in 1862. I do not see how that can be correct. His son Thomas A., born 1842 was in the North Carolina, Co.A, 28th regiment of the confederate army. He died in 1862. I have a copy of the letter the army received where in William is asking for the army to pay him the money they owed Thomas A. He signed the letter and the date is 1863.

William was dead by 1880's census where his son is then listed as the head of household. Does anyone have information on a death date for William, Louise's husband?
maggie

There are only 2 left, Wade Ward and Bonnie Barnes, children of Bessie Stoker Ward and Chester Ward. I am the grandchild of them and great granddauther of William. I guess you used to go to all the Thompson reunions, I did as well. I am 61, live in Kernersville.
