James Stewart Agnes Bunting

James and Agnes had sons Charles and Alexander and operated James Stewart & Son’s House Factors in Glasgow.

Alexander was b 12 JUN 1865 in Glasgow, he married Christina MacDonald 7 JUL 1892 in Glasgow. In 1901 they were living at the Grove in Roseneath he is listed as a Banker and House Factor. A son Alexander was b 1894 in Clydebank and in 1906 a daughter Margaret Jarvie b Yoker (Clydebank). There is no signs of this family in the 1911 Scottish Census nor English Census. No death, divorce nor remarriage recorded that I have been able to find for Alexander and Christina or their son Alexander. Mind you Alexander Jr. may have been killed in WWI. I did find Margaret she married in 1920 at Clydebank and moved with her husband to his farm in Kent. On Margaret’s marriage registration it lists both her parent but neither indicated as deceased nor were they listed as witnesses but then parents rarely were.

A long shot especially with such common names, I’m hoping to find someone lurking about who knows this family.

Don
Hey, i'm related somewhere down the track and proud of it. My grandmother was Georgina Frances Wilson - nee Stewart. Her father Hugh Stewart drowned before she was born at Katikati. My mother Particia Celia Harvey - nee Wilson. Daughter of Norman Wilson and Georgina Frances nee Stewart. My mother lent some beautiful Victorian exquisite gowns which were family heirlooms to an early open day or weekend at Athenree but unfortunately they went missinbg. I have photos of the dresses and may try and make some enquiries. They belong to Athenree Historical House or a Museum in the BOP

Sarah Stewart (b. 1805) married to John B. Nickey (b. 1810); who are they?

Hello,

DISCUSSION: The "History of that part of the Susquehanna and Juniata valleys, embraced in the counties of Mifflin, Juniata, Perry, Union and Snyder, in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania" (available by a Google Search) indicates that Sarah and John were married. The below paragraph on Sarah and John is taken from the document.

"The land on which John Weldon now lives was in possession of John Stewart, who came from Carlisle over ninety years ago. He was in the War of the Revolution. The children of John Stewart were Jane, who married Thomas Black and settled at Duncannon; Sarah, who became the wife of John B. Nickey of Penn's Valley; Richiird Stewart, who settled at Clark's Ferry; William J. Stewart, of Duncannon. His son, Livingston Stewart, who settled near Duncannon, was a son by his second wife. His daughter Susan married John Weldon, and now resides on the old Stewart homestead. Ellen, another daughter of Livingston, married Peter Swisher, and lives near Duncainion. Sannii'l Potter and Andrew Pennell settled in the east part of the township soon after 1820. The latter is still living."

John B. Nickey is probably of the second generation of native-born Nickey's and could be significant in early linkage of my ancestors. My knowledge of Stewart's is inadequate to determine Sarah's generation. I have located what I believe is their 1850 and 1870 U.S. Census. Using the Census data John was probably born about 1810 and Mary about 1805. Both were most likely buried in West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Cemetery, Kishacoquillas, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania, Church and Town Records, 1708-1985). If my efforts are correct I have identified two children: (1) Harriett L. Nickey (19 Feb 1830 - 18 Aug 1893) married to Mathew R. Patton (2 May 1814 - 11 Apr 1897); both buried in Old Presbyterian Cemetery, Belleville, Mifflin Co., Pennsylvania, and (2) William S. Nickey (1838 - 1881) married to Elizabeth Thomas (abt 1838 - abt 1882); burial sites are unknown. William and Elizabeth have four children and all but one is married before 1880 (U.S. Census).

PROBLEM: I lack information on: (1) who are the parents of John B. Nickey, (2) mother of Sarah Stewart, (3) their marriage date (est. 1837), and (4) other descriptive information, etc.

I'm doing geology research on George Niecke's direct (Nickey surname) descendants and their spouses. I currently have linked 1,647 individuals that fit this criterion. I am willing to share all or any of my database. Please help; even the smallest bit of information could be useful. I can be contacted on this message board or at Sewbee2@aol.com.

Best wishes, Brad (Bradley Baer Nickey)
EDWARD HILL STEWART

I am working on the Stewart family tree but I am confused when I go to Edward Hill Stewart Birth Sep 1758 in Frederick, Maryland, United States
Death 22 Aug 1830 in Salem, Jefferson, Ohio, USA,
He is my 6th Great Grandfather.

The problem I am having is the discrepancy on who his parents are. Some information I found says Alexander Stewart and Catherine Hill . Then I found other information that stated that his parents are Adam and Eve. I know my dad always told me that this line is what is what links us to Mary Queen of Scots, but getting there is confusing me. Any incite would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ephraim Stewart

I have had my family in West Virginia, Ohio, or PA from 1806 to 1824 - All children say they were born in Wheeling, WV - I have traced al four children down but not one obituary says the names of their parents. The children are Susan, Lydia, Ephraim and Henry and all very religious and farmers - in around 1924 they were orphaned - Susan got married, Lydia was bonded out, and the two little boys were but in the poor house where they stayed for about 4 years and then were "adopted by people"????? and taken to Illinois. I cannot find any record of them in Illinois until they each got married (they still had the Stewart Name. Henry stayed in Illinois and married - Ephraim (my 3great grandfather) married and left for Missouri with a wagon train that included Paster Alan and set up a church in Bethany Township, in Harrison Co., MO. All four of the children say that both parents were born in PA. A few years later Lydia and her sister, Susan who was married to Rev. Shumard (they had a large family) joined Ephraim in Bethany and Lydia, Susan, and Her husband lived the rest of their lives there. Ephraim left the area.

Could you scan your book for any reference of these names -
I have been working on this tree since I was 13 and I am 67 next month. I have been back to the states mentioned several times and nothing is to be found.

Thank you.

I don't know if this helps but, maybe we have something in common.
