I, too, am searching for Della's father's name, but I've had no luck. Mary Christine Ellis was my great-grandmother (mother to James Arthur Massey). She married Henry Parks in 1891 (she was 14), then she married Mr. Stever and gave birth to Mr. Stever. She married F.H. Ward in 1899 (listed as Mrs. Mary Stever on the marriage license). Mr. Ward died in 1900, and she married John Albert Massey in 1904.

If you find any information on Mr. Stever, please let me know. I've searched everywhere!

Eileen Adams are you still on here? I know this is a very old thread, but it's worth a shot. I'm interested in some of the information you have concerning John W. Fitch and C. P Fitch. Do you know if they were brothers? Or who their parents are? C P is my 4th great grandfather the C P stands for Commodore Perry. He also named a son John W. (maybe named after the John W you mentioned) he was born 1855. I'm guessing he did have a brother named John W. and maybe a brother Joseph also. I find all three listed in the Wayne Co., IL Reserve Militia in 1862.
I am researching my wife's Stevers line. She has George Washington Stevers (1812-1886) as her gg grandfather, but now we are at a dead end.
I see that Frank Stever had a webpage on the Stever(s) but has recently passed. If there is someone who is continuing the Stever(s) research and/or maintaining the website, I would like to see if there is a connection.
Thanks

I am searching for my great grandfather. He would have been alive before 1875, living in
Missouri, USA and possibly died after 1896 in Missouri, USA My grandmother was the first child born to Mary Christine Ellis in Oct 1876 in Dunklin, Missouri, USA and to this unknown Stever Father. Mary Christine Ellis went on to marry Henry PARKS 18 Feb 1891 in Dunklin, Missouri, USA, then F. H. WARD 13 Jul 1899 in Lawrence, Arkansas, USA, then John Albert MASSEY in 1904 in Swifton, Jackson, Arkansas, USA. Mary Christine Ellis was the daughter of W John Scott Ellis, born 26 Jan 1843 in Texas County, Missouri, USA and Elizabeth
HARRIS 1845-1913

I would SO appreciate any leads! I have been unable to come up with any marriage records or anything that might give me a clue as to what my GGfather Stever's first name might have been.

You are in luck as I have information in my family book that shows James Wesley (b. Augst 1850 d. Feb.10, 1922 in Springfield, Mo.) was marrried to Sarah D. Rogers Dooley (1860-1943) on Aug. 17, 1879. She is buried in Greenlawn cem in Sprinfield, Mo. I show five kids, one being Ita Stever born Aug. 21, 1882, died unknown date) who married Charlence Poteet. I do not have any more information on the downline, as she is not in my direct line. James Wesley's parents were George Washing Stever, Jr. (1816-1863). he was born in Indiana and moved wtih his parents to MO in 1837. He first married Elizabeth Ann Hill. They had one son, Franklin, on Oct. 18, 1945. She died Jan.5 1948. George then married Hester Ann Elvira Hason on June 1. 1848 in Dallas Co., MO. They had 9 children. Hope this helps!

Hello Everyone: I am attempting to trace Philip Stiver who resided in Lancaster Co. Pa. in 1823. Philip claimed two of his grandsons Rees(e) and Joseph (also listed as John) Burns from the Chester Co. Pa. Poor-House on 13th of Nov. or Dec 1823. Rees(e) and Joseph have an older brother George who was apprenticed to Hugh Love of Charlestown, Chester Co. Pa. where the family resided before entering the Poor-House on 03 Nov 1823 after the death of their father Eleazer Burns. The boy's mother, Mary Stiver Burns B: ABT. 1797 entered with them on that date and died there on 31 Dec 1823.

Does anyone have a connection to this Philip Stiver or know to which family he belongs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My direct email is areyno5980@aol.com. Thank you. Allice Burns Reynolds

Hi Mathew,
I went to the site and found Clarence, his parents Ella and William. Tressie Pearl was also there. She was my dad's sister.
My only question with Clarence Smith Poteet is the last name has been crossed out and hand written in??? The other thing that is puzzling is line 6. Name of Husband or wife it is filled in Joey or Josy Poteet. Do you have any information on that???.
Thanks for all your help.
When you get time tell me about your self.
gardencreations1@aol.com
cell 609 204-4024

I know this is an old post, but I have just started looking for information on my grandmother Ita Stever - Poteet.
Ita married Clarence Smith Poteet, their children were
Tracey Marie Poteet
Treesie Pearl Poteet
James W. Poteet ( Jim _
John Owen Poteet ( Owen )
Cora Faye Poteet
Hugh Poteet ( Ernie )
Clarence Edward Poteet ( Ed )

Clarence Edward was my father.
I am looking for information on who Ita's parents were. I am showing James Wesley Stever and Sarah C. Rogers, but when i look at a list of children I don't see Ita, I see a Ida. Please help if you have any information.
Deborah Poteet - Gabris
my email is gardencreations1@aol.com
Hi Mathew,
I am very happy to hear from you. I know I have other pictures at home in NJ. I am going back next Wednesday for a few day and will look for them. I know I have a picture of Clarence and Ita that may be a wedding picture, not sure but they are young and dressed up. I also have a picture of Ita's grave stone. I will try to find the pictures next week, if not I will be home in NJ in June. My sister and 2 brothers may have something.
I have not see Clarence's Death Certificate, would love the link.
The book I was refering to was from Fawn's post that said she had a family book that listed Ita, married to Clarence and who Ita's parent were.
Talk to you soon,
Debbie

Someone once suggested that Poteet might be a misspelling of Pettitt and that the two are the same. I do not know if this is a valid theory. The Pettitts are thought to be French Hugenots who intermarried with the Cherokee. Some of them also traveled with Daniel Boone, from NC to TN to Kentucky.

That's cool, yet strange that the pronunciation of the last name is basically the same (assuming it sounds like it is spelled) but has a different spelling. Especially since our family are descendants of the Stevers also. A few years ago, I went to the Morman Church to do research and found the book, "From These We Came," by Rev. Frank Stever. I had it sent from Utah via microfilm (cost about $10) and was able to view it. Sarah Caroline Rogers Stever and James Wesley Stever (Parents of Ita Stever) were both buried somewhere in Webster County, Missouri. Follow this link though (State of Missouri's Secretary of State website - vital statistics (Birth and Death Records):http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/r...

Go to the "1910-1959" database and type in Poteet. You will find Clarence S.(Smith) Poteet. Ita isn't on the certificate, as they were divorced by the time of his death. However, his dad's name is William Poteet and his mom's name is Ella Gardner (both on the Certificate.

What is really strange, is when I was 17, I lived in Missouri for about a year. I lived in Springfield which is Greene County. I lived less than a mile from where his (Clarence) home was, and which was also where he passed.

Hope this helps Debbie! I will send those pics soon too!

This is awesome! I am so excited!

Thanks!

Mathew
