Searching for information on the parents of William Packard STEINER of Pennsylvania. I have a photo of William taken in 1864 by a photographer in Williamsport, PA and believe he was working on a farm owned by a Bitner family in Clinton Co, PA in 1880. William Packard STEINER, married Linnie M. KUNES, daughter of Christian KUNES and Caroline STALICH/SPAGLEY. Children of William and Linnie: Charles Leroy STEINER (b. 1896), Floyd K. STEINER (b.1900), Harrison Norton STEINER (b. 1889). I am the daughter of Charles Leroy STEINER's, son Donald LeRoy STEINER (b.1921).

Would appreciate any information on his parents or where he may have been living in 1870. Thank you.

Looking for Mary Ellen Steiner born to Joel Steiner in PA. She married a John/Jack Lynn and had two children, Mabel and Arthur. Apparently she died right around 1900 because Mabel is found living with the Eisenman family soon after. Both Arthur (Noss/Nause) and Mabel (Eisenman) were either adopted or took the names of the family members they were living with. Looking for both Mary and her husband John. My great grandfather was Arthur Noss. please contact me with any information to trporter.esq@gmail.com

Re: Louisa Huver Steiner (1817-1873)

I, too, am a descendant of Louisa Huver and William Huver.
Here is I story I heard while growing up in Mobile, AL.: When Henry Steiner married Louisa in 1848, she had a son named William, who was 11 years old. William married Julia Clements, b. 1839, d. of Anderson Clements and Margaret DeMouy. He used the surname of Huver when he married. Later, in the 1860 census, he and Julia have the surname of Steiner. There is no record of a divorce or change of names by William or Julia. When William died, he had the name Huver and is buried in Magnolia Springs Cemetery in Mobile County as William. Julia buried as Julia Steiner. Yet, they never divorces. Family lore is that Louisa persuaded Henry to adopt William (after he married Julia) so he could inherit some of the Steiner fortune (dairy and grocery). Apparently, Henry and William had a falling out and Henry disinherited William, or William took back his old surname. My great grandmother Julia, daughter of William and Julia, retained the Steiner surname when she married Aloysius Brantley Easley. I am also trying to trace the origins of Louisa Huver and William. I don't think William was born in Georgia as I could not find any Huvers there at the time of his birth, unless the name was change to Hoover, which was common. I found many Huvers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, which is likely where they came from. How did they endup in Mobile? I don't know.

I have an original framed photograph of “Florence Steiner”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Detroit, MI and she looks to be about age 16-18.

I found Florence J. Steiner in the 1910 census for Detroit (Wayne Co.) MI, age 12, with parents John H. and Florence L. Steiner and younger brothers John (born abt 1900) and Earl (abt. 1903). In 1900, John and Florence lived in Chicago, and daughter Florence’s date of birth was listed as August 1897 in Michigan. By 1920, mother Florence lived in Detroit with sons John and Earl, but not with daughter Florence. With then lived Florence’s father, last name Elston.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Florence J. She married a man in the late 30's - I only have a probable first name, Walter, and no last name yet. They had two daughters, Loretta and Diane. Virginia and Walter divorced, and he and his mother got custody of the girls. Virginia remarried to Earl Tenley in 1945 and moved back west to WY and then WA.

One daughter of Virginia's, married name Loretta Smith, was living in Clio, MI as recently as 1992.

Steiner from the Gaster region of canton St.Gallen, Switzerland

Steiner is a fairly common name in all German speaking parts of the world - but several lines originate in the Gaster region of canton St.Gallen: citizenships since before 1800 in Benken, Dorf bei Schänis, Kaltbrunn, Maseltrangen, Rieden, and Schänis. The fact that it is such a common name within that small area, that lines may be related - or not, often makes it difficult to determine the exact origin.

The regional museum of Kaltbrunn is planning an exhibition on emigration from the region, and is seeking contact to descendants of emigrants. More information, including a map of the area, can be found on http://www.seelentags.de/gaster/. If your Steiner ancestors came from the Gaster region, we would be pleased to be contacted - preferably via the links provided on the above mentioned web page.

Best regards - Wolf Seelentag

Elizabeth A Steiner b-1849, d-1900 - Switzerland to Missouri

In an earlier post on this board: http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.steiner/519/mb.ashx
I discussed my search for ancestors of my Great grandmother Elizabeth Steiner. The family thought she had come to America with her Mother and Father. I've not been able to confirm that(they may have stayed in Switzerland).

So am now considering she may have immigrated on her own. 1900 Census form show Arrival 1868. She shows up in Moniteau county Missouri getting married to Jacob Scheurer 28 May 1874. In searching for immigration records, I've located a couple of possible single female candidates, but nothing to tie them to my relative(s). Still looking for where she was 1869-1874. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested in any information regarding Louisa Huver Steiner prior to her marriage to Henry Steiner. I am a descendant of William Huver (born 1837, possibly in Georgia), who was Louisa's oldest son. While there is a great deal of information on Louisa and Henry's children, I have been unable to locate any information for Louisa or William Huver prior to Louisa's marriage to Henry Steiner.

Louisa was born in 1817, Baden, Germany (or Boston Mass). She married Henry Steiner in 1848, Mobile, AL. I do not know if Huver was Louisa's maiden name or a married name.
William Huver was born in 1837. Some information shows he was born in Georgia, others state in Germany.

Any information would be most appreciated.

Steiner Family in San Diego/ Originating In Germany

Hi,
My daughter is planning a trip to Germany with her Grandparents next summer (2015). Her father was adopted. His birth father's last name is Steiner. We met him a couple of times and he told us that his ancestors were from Germany, but nothing more. My daughter is now almost 13 and interested in her lineage. So for her trip she was curious if there was a way to track down where the name or family originated. We do not have contact with her birth grandfather, he has never met her. But she is curious about her background as is her father.

So I thought I would reach out to the community to see if anyone has any ideas on how I could go about finding out any of this information. l am a beginner to researching but a quick study and not afraid of research.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
A bit of background -

Birth Father from San Diego CA - born around 1948 I think name Richard Steiner
attended San Diego State University
this would be her birth grandfather.

Like I said, she is just interested in visiting the part of Germany where the family may have come from. She is not searching for a relationship.

Thank you so much.
Jeanna

Karen, In the 1900 Census Howard Sumner Steiner was married to Gertrude Keakerman. Her parents were Elizabeth and John Keakerman. They lived with them at the time of the Census. I can't find anything further about Grandfather and his first wife. I know they had a son named Howard Sumner Steiner, Jr. He had several sons and then just disappeared. Phyllis (you met her at our last cousins picnic) has been trying to find out infor on her ancestry. Is any of this part of our grandfather???

I am a descendant of Jacob Steiner and Sarah Deamer. The 1910 Census shows Jacob Steiner age 89 widower, living with his son Lloyd Sharpless Steiner, my great grandfather. Lloyd Sharpless Steiner is married to Mary Elizabeth Brutzman Steiner. Bloomsburg Pennsylvania. I haven't been able to locate Sarah Deamer as of yet. I just restarted yesterday after putting it away for many years. My grandfather is David Edward Steiner son of Lloyd Sharpless and Mary E. Brutzman. My father is Homer Calvin Steiner, son of David Edward Steiner and Adda Marie Calvin. I am Barbara Lee Steiner Barker daughter of Homer Calvin Steiner. If anyone knows anything about Sarah Deamer, I would love an e-mail.
