Hello,

I am trying to make contact with a descendant of Gilbert Steck who was
born in NJ in 1899 and died around 1972. My name is Curtis Breslin
and I live in Toronto. A genealogist I hired has done some research
that suggests that I may be related to him. I was wondering whether
you are related in some way to him, or know someone familiar with the
Steck family tree who is.

Warm regards,
Curtis

Hello. Your information and dates seem to match records of my family. Peter Stec was the brother of my great-grandmother Marianna Stec. Peter came to the US around 1906 and his wife came to the US a year later. They had 6 children - 3 boys and 3 girls. They settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Please contact me. I can give you more information.

Edward and Marie had 10 children. There are still members of their family in the area. One of their ggrandshone, Marcus Steck, Jr. recently passed away. His brother Dean still lives in Bellville. The Meinecke side of that family is still a part of the area. I come from one of Marie Wilhelmine's brothers (JFAugust Meinecke) My greatgrandfather was the first born child of August.
Hi Rhonda

If you are still out there, feel free to check out my Barfield tree. My mom is a Caldwell (TX) Steck. Friedrich Gustav was Eduard Gottlieb's younger brother. The Caldwell Stecks are descended from Fred and Ed's eldest brother, Heinrich, who stayed in Bellville but had a son Henry who moved on to Burleson County.

Hi all,
I recently bought an old photo labelled " Luther Maurice Steck, Jr, age 9 months, 702 Logan Ave, Belvidere, Illinois." I believe this is the son of the Luther Maurice Steck b. 1897, d. 1955, but I have no further info. If this is one of your relatives, I'd be glad to scan and send you a copy. It is a great pic.
Lynette,
This response is well over a decade after your original post, but hopefully you still check this site. I am a descendent of Clara Oncken, daughter of W.H.F Oncken. I was wondering if you could provide me information (birth/marriage/death) for all of Clara’s siblings, W.H.F’s parents (Christian and Charlotta (Knodt)) as well as his grandparents and possibly great grandparents. If you have scans of those pages, that would be ideal, but I would be just as happy with just the information.
Thanks for any help you can provide
Scott
madbeaker@aol.com
STECK/STECH/STEACH/STAKE Genealogy & DNA Project

STECH descendants from several different families have banded together to start the Stech DNA Project. The main purpose of the project is to confirm whether or not the various STECH, STECK, STEACH, STAKE, or STACH families with ties to Lancaster, Franklin and Westmoreland counties in Pennsylvania, to New York, Maryland, other states, and to various localities in Baden, Germany, are actually related to each other. There may additional spelling variations of the surname not yet revealed. All men claiming descent in the paternal line are invited to participate in the DNA project.

In addition, we are attempting to build a genealogy database for future reference in STECH/STECK/etc research. ALL persons with an interest in STECH, STECK, STEACH, STAKE, or STACH genealogy are invited to participate in that part of the project.

If you are interested in participating in either part of this project, please contact the undersigned for additional information.

Ginni Morgan
purpledragon1 (at) earthlink (dot) net
or
ginni (dot) morgan (at) doj (dot) ca (dot) gov

In a book transcribed by Paul Miller Ruff it states that John Michael Steck married Esther Haeffner. I do not have any documentation, he was my gr gr gr grandfather. The line of children are many. In this book it states John and Esther (Hetty) had 13 children. My line is from the 8th child. Esther (Hetty) Steck, b. ca 1799 married David Kuhns. If you would like some dates and more info please contact me at lbglidden@juno.com. That way we won't be tying up the message board.
Lynn

I don't know them myself. My aunt and uncle lived at the house at 965 Fairview street. My aunt Mary kept a diary and occassionally she would write about the trucks, and the noise and a few other things. If you are interested I will dig the info out of the closet but I don't think there are any true genealogy leads, just references to them. They also mention the Kondza's who I believe lived next door until they died in the 1970's

Hi Janet, I can't believe I am just now finding this message! Actually, that was my ex-husband's family (Donald Stech, Jr) I was researching, and as we are since divorced, I haven't been researching it...however, I'd still be interested in what info you may have as I still have my notes from all the research, and my curiosity for solving those family mysteries is as strong as ever. I can understand if you're unwilling to share since technically we are no longer family, but I do hope you consider it, because for me it's just a joy to research, no matter whose family it is. :) I would definitely find a way to share the info with my ex-husband's family, as they were always interested and intrigued with my research. Thank you for the message!

Julie

My Steck ancestors are also from Alsace and F. A. Steck came to Lancaster, Ohio in the late 1820's. He was married to a Beuchler and his in-laws also came to Lancaster, Ohio. Is there a possible connection?
