I have been doing some research on the Starr families of 1850 Harrison County, TX and the Richard and Sarah (Jackson) Starr family is one of the families that caught my attention. Richard apparently died some time between 1850 and 1860 because his widow, Sarah Starr, age 64, can be found in the 1860 census of Hopkins County, TX with two of her children, Lucinda age 18 and James age 17.
There seems to be a lot of speculation as to where they went next. Well it turns out that I found all 3 of them in the 1870 census of Bosque County, TX. James is now married and has a family. The very next line down and the last entry on that census page, is his mother, Sarah Starr, Lucinda Starr can be found on the first line of the next census page.
The thing that has messed up finding Sarah Starr is the fact that the census taker reversed her name on the census and wrote it as Sarah Starr and not Starr, Sarah. All the other entries were last name then first name. He also did not write her age clearly so it looks like she was age 10 instead of 76, but he did show her as a widow.
Finding Lucinda Starr in the 1870 census for Bosque County places her in a closer proximity to Palo Piinto County, TX where Lucinda Belle Starr married Doc R Wilson.
