Are you sure he was born in VA? I have a Noah Wilson Starling who was born in Ashe County, NC (borders Virginia), on 5/19/1885. He died 10/25/1918. Verification for his name and relationship come from Minnie Starling Delayed Birth Certificate in Ashe County, NC (at Courthouse in Jefferson, NC). She listed Noah as her father.

Noah was a brother to my maternal grandmother, Birdie Lou Starling and the son of William/Wilborn (I've seen it both ways in census and on birth certificates) Starling, who was born in Ashe County, NC around 1855 according to censuses. Several of his children's birth certificates have various later dates from 1857-1865 for his birth.

Noah's father was Abraham Starling, born around 1818 in NC, and also was still around in the 1880 census. Another GEDCOM says he died around 1890. I believe Abraham's mother was Nancy as there was a Nancy Starling, age 62 living with his family in 1850 (Note: in 1850 census, name is listed as Sturling), but I don't know who Abraham's father was or where he came from. Does anyone else know?
