Does anyone have a theory on what the name St. Amant means and why we got it in the first place?

Daspit, de St. Amand, Daspit de St. Amand, St. Amant
Monique, Bernard Daspit married the heiress of the ancient family de St. Amand of Toulouse, France (Ann de St. Amand) in 1650. He admired the name "St. Amand" so much that he adopted it and changed his last name to "Daspit de St. Amand". This family grew and emigrated to Louisiana, and over the years the name "St. Amant" evolved without the "Daspit". Also, our name ending changed from a "d" to a "t". The Daspit branch remains also.

Well, how did St. Amand of Toulouse get their name? What does it mean? Holy Love? Holy Lover? Why this name???? Was it granted by the church?

St. Amant
Monique, I don't know about the derivation or meaning except that I have always thought that "Amant" was possibly part of the conjugation of the french word meaning "to love". I do know that there is a stained glass window in a church in France with a picture of a man with the name "Saint Amant" printed at the bottom. I have a print of that picture in my genealogy book. It was taken by a Joseph M. Maxim St. Amant (now deceased) in California. We don't know where this church is in France. I have asked several others, but nobody knows anything about it. Sorry I don't have any more information for you.
