Looking for ancestors of William St.Ama

Hello all,

I'm looking for any and all info on the St.Ama/St.Amant
ancestors. Especially anything before 1900. My grandfather,
William St.Ama, emigrated from France when he was 19 years
old. He married Mary Alice Gibson, and settled in East
Texas, where he removed the 'nt' so the Texans might
pronounce the name correctly.

My dad is James Wilburn St.Ama (known as T-Bone)

It would be great to hear from anyone...

Hello Don,
Imagine my surprise when I seen your message on the internet. You don't find much on our family name if anything.
My dad is Luther Derrell St.ama, son of William Luther St.Ama. Married to Martha Leatherwood, St.Ama. T-Bone was my dad's uncle. Your mother will probably remember me when we were corresponding sometime before T-Bone past.
My dad is no longer with us since this past November. Please contact me at buttercup4255@peoplepc.com. Maybe we can swap information about our family history.
Sincerely,
Gwen

Hello,

My great-grandmother was Martha Virginia "Mattie" Gibson.

She had a sister named Mary Alice Gibson who married three (3) times and her last husband was George William St. AMA.

According to my records they had six (6) children. The first and second children names are unknown. But, the others were: William Luther, Ida Pearl, Rowlan Williard, and Allie Faye.

I've been very curious of the last name ST. AMA and just found your note this evening.

I'm sorry I don't have any information to give you on George William St. Ama, but wanted to contact you as I am related to his wife, Mary Alice Gibson.

Thank you for your time.

I just replied to Don St. Ama's message and didn't notice your message until afterwards.

My great-grandmothers sister was Mary Alice Gibson who married Geo. Wm. St. Ama and had a daughter Ida (or Ada) Pearl St. Ama.

So, I am related to the Gibson family.

I have very little information about Mary Alice's father, William Gibson other than he was born in Graves Co., KY about 1836 and died about 1917 in Mesquite, TX.

Her mother was Martha Esther Nolen, born about 1833 and died about 1897.

I've found conflicting information that the Gibson family lived in Fannin County and/or Johnson County, TX.

I never knew Mary Alice, but did know her sister (my great-grandmother), Martha Virginia "Mattie" Gibson.

Thank you for your time.

One more thing...
I don't know if the Gibson family were part or full American Indian.

I do have a photo of William Gibson and his wife Martha Esther (Nolen), if you are interested.

If you have any photos of the Gibson family I would appreciate having a copy(ies), if you don't mind.

Hey Don. Wow! We have William St. Amants all over the family and I've never heard from Texas. My family tree is mostly from Ireland despite the French sounding St. Amant name. But all my ancestors have a Canada, Boston, or San Francisco connection. Can you relate ;-)

Email me at nick.st.amant@verizon.net.

Nick

Btw, several years back I used to correspond with a Noe St. Amant in Houma, Louisana. Regretably, he died. I hadn't heard from him for a while and checked one of the online Death Indexes, where I discovered the reason he didn't respond to my last email. His take was that there were three St. Amant strains, and not necessarily related. People from the town of St. Amant (now St. Amand) in France took on the town name as their surname. I have a huge amount of family data, but mostly on the maternal side--Coughlan, Kavanaugh, Quinn--all the St. Amant men married Irish gals. I'd love to get a St. Amant connection all the way back to France.
