Marion C. "Marty" Srebro, 93,
of Jeannette,
passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011,
in The Center of Greater Pittsburgh, Greensburg.
He was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Warren Pa.,
a son of the late Jacob and Tekla Witalis Srebro.
Marty retired in 1980 from Westinghouse Electro Mechanical Division, Cheswick, after 40 years of service. He was a sergeant in the Army, having served in the South Pacific during World War II. Marty was a contributing member of the World War II Memorial, which he visited in 2004, in Washington, D.C. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and its Holy Name Society,
a member and past grand knight of Knights of Columbus Council 1222, all of Jeannette, past president of the Greensburg Diocesan Chapter of the K of C, and past faithful navigator of the St. Vincent Assembly, Latrobe. Marty was predeceased his wife, Katherine Gurksnis Srebro, in 1999; his first wife, Violet Rutkowski Srebro, in 1978; a son, Edmund C. Srebro; two brothers Milton and Theodore Srebro; and two sisters, Catherine Srebro and Edna Tepper. He is survived by three children, Thomas Gurksnis and wife, Gayle, of Parker, Colo., Janet Zubryd and husband, Daniel, of Mendon, Mich., and Marjorie Constantine and husband, Connie, of Houston, Pa.; a dear and loving sister-in-law, Joan Skatell, of Jeannette; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his dog and companion, Dukie, who was his best buddy. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette. The Jeannette K of C Council 1222 will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Church with Father John M. Foriska as celebrant. Interment with military honors accorded by the Jeannette Combined Veterans will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hempfield.
