Joseph W. Sramek,74, of 1111 North Wasson St., Streator, Illinois died at 4:45 am Thursday Feb 28th 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital.
Services will be held at 3pm Sat. at Hagi Funeral Home.
Burial will be in St. Casimir's Cemetery.Military honors, including honor guard, firing squad, taps and flag folding will be conducted by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492. Pallbearers will be family members.
Visitation will be 2-3 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
Born March 14th 1927, in Streator, he was the son of Joseph and Antonia (Kalkusowski) Szramek. He married Elizabeth Ann Fialko on Aug 19th of 1950. She died Dec 16th of 2001.
He is survived by daughters. Tina Ann (Mrs. Danny) Kilgore of Pontiac, Illinois and Susan (Mrs. Karl) Stenersen of Palatine, sons Bill, John (Barbara) Sramek both of Streator, Illinois and Chet (Lisa) Sramek of Menifee, Calif. and David(Karen)Sramek of West Covina, Calif and Joseph (Lisa) Sramek of Fair Oaks, Calif and 14 grandchildren, sisters, Josephine Hoge, Nellie LeGare and Mary Sharisky all of Streator, and Stella Senko of Naperville, Il. and a brother William Sramek of Peru.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Wanda Mindock, a step-sister Valerie Tutko and step-brothers, Julian and Walter and Stanley Dukiewicz.
He attended Streator grade schools and Streator high School.
He served in the United States Army in the European Theater during World War 2. He worked as a barber and also as a custodian at Northlawn School. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492. He was a former member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 645 and Streator Benevolent and Protective order of Elks 591. He was affiliated with St. Casimir's Church.
