I don't know anything about maniowy but imagine that it might be close to Nowy Targ. My husband's grandparents, Franciszek and Sophie Sral emigrated from there to Portage, PA in 1912. Where did your gggrandfather emigrate to?

Sorry it has taken so long to reply. My ggrandfather Andrew and his brother Michael first immigrated to eastern Pa and then to Martins Ferry in eastern Ohio (near Wheeling, WV). They had 2 sisters that married and stayed in eastern Pa. Nowy Targ is very near to Maniowy in southern Poland.

Thanks for your note! Surely they were related to our Srals! Franciszek Sral arrived on 19 January 1910 at Ellis Island when he was 18 years old. He's listed on the Ellis Island Wall of Fame so you might check there! He arrived on the ship, Kronprinz Wilhelm. I don't know the name of his parents but he had brothers, Stanley (born in 1889) and Michael. He was killed in a mining accident, so his wife moved his 5 children to Chicago and later remarried. I'm sorry I don't know more except about his family. I know where he is buried in Portage, PA but don't know if the cemetary has further records. My husband says that there is a Catholic church there that was very helpful when he visited years ago.
I assume that you are related by your mother's side. My husband knows that there are Shalls in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Did your ggrandfather change his name to Shall?

They probably are related. It is my maternal grandmother's side of the family. Both of her parents came from Poland in the early 1900's. I have a lot of information about the immediate family, but very little on the family still in Poland. The family changed the spelling of the name to Sall here in eastern Ohio. My great grandfather was also killed in a mining accident.
