Carmen R. Squeglia, age 68,
of Erie, died unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, September 30, 2008 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie on August 27, 1940 son of the late Carmen R. and Adeline Bartley Squeglia. He was a graduate of Cathedral Prep. Upon graduation, he served with the United States Army as a Cryptographer in Germany. Carmen was an employee of Lord Corporation for 39 years retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Lord Quarter Century Club. He was actively involved in St. John the Baptist Church serving on Parish Council. He was also involved in the St. John-Holy Rosary School serving on its Finance Committee, School Board, P.T.C. Board and the Advancement Committee. Carmen enjoyed his daily “very early” workouts at Pennbriar Athletic Club and conversing with all his workout buddies. He especially enjoyed observing his grandchildren’s athletic events whether it was the Soap Box Derby here and in Akron, or the swim meets, football, basketball, baseball and soccer games. He was very proud of their accomplishments. In addition to his parents, Carmen was preceded in death by his sister, Madelyn Squeglia and his brother, Gerald Squeglia. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marlene Dahlkemper Squeglia, his children, Stephen and Betsy Squeglia, Beth Squeglia, Jennifer and Dana Fracassi and John Squeglia, and grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Thomas, Tony and Mary Trese Squeglia and Andrea, Emma and Dominic Fracassi. He is further survived by his brothers, D. Richard and Lorraine Squeglia of Erie and David and Anita Squeglia of Murfreesboro, Tenn. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Friends may call at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, PA 16502 on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. and also on Friday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. and are invited to a service there on Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.
