SQUANCEs anywhere in the world
I have conducted a virtual one-name study of the name SQUANCE (Sconce, Squants etc), dating back to the mid 1500s. I have several thousand entries in my database, and would be happy to help anyone else looking for information. The name was based mainly in the counties of Devon & Cornwall in England, but there are branches all over the world now, although not very many people with the actual surname today - approx 300!

Re: SQUANCEs anywhere in the world
Hello Sophie - my mum was a SQUANCE too - where in England/Ireland are you? I have quite comprehensive information on most SQUANCEs going back to the 1600s, but I cannot pinpoint a Kevin Frederick - which may mean he's just too young for my records! I'd be happy to share my records to help you go back further, but I need to establish from which branch you descend.

Re: SQUANCEs anywhere in the world
I know exactly who your family are, and yes, we are connected. (The W. Australian SQUANCEs were QUANCEs from Batcombe, Somerset who evolved into SQUANCEs) You've got a couple of families muddled I think - I need to look at your dates in more detail - I have been through the Roborough registers so many times, and need to check a couple of things, but I show that William Henry's father was Richard SQUANCE & mother Ann DYMOND - here is the family in 1891 and 1901: In 1891: 1891 CENSUS. William Henry married Elizabeth Ann TONKIN 25 Sep 1905 and they had 9 children that I know of. E-mail me off-list and we'll swap notes!
