SQUANCEs anywhere in the world

Surnames: SQUANCE, LILLICRAP, DANKKESTER, BATH, WEST, NORTHMORE etc
I have conducted a virtual one-name study of the name SQUANCE (Sconce, Squants etc), dating back to the mid 1500s. I have several thousand entries in my database, and would be happy to help anyone else looking for information.
The name was based mainly in the counties of Devon & Cornwall in England, but there are branches all over the world now, although not very many people with the actual surname today - approx 300!

Hello Sophie - my mum was a SQUANCE too - where in England/Ireland are you? I have quite comprehensive information on most SQUANCEs going back to the 1600s, but I cannot pinpoint a Kevin Frederick - which may mean he's just too young for my records!
I'd be happy to share my records to help you go back further, but I need to establish from which branch you descend.

I know exactly who your family are, and yes, we are connected. (The W. Australian SQUANCEs were QUANCEs from Batcombe, Somerset who evolved into SQUANCEs)
You've got a couple of families muddled I think - I need to look at your dates in more detail - I have been through the Roborough registers so many times, and need to check a couple of things, but I show that William Henry's father was Richard SQUANCE & mother Ann DYMOND - here is the family in 1891 and 1901:
In 1891:
1891 CENSUS. P.R.O. Piece No. 1782
Registration District No. : 286
Enumeration Dist. No. 4
Civil Parish: Dowland
Eccles. Parish: Dowland
Enumerator 04 Folio 28 Page 2 Sched. 11 - Cottage
SQUANCE Richard Head M M 24 y Ag. Lab(Em'ee) DEV Roborough SQUANCE Ann Wife M F 26 y DEV Dolton
SQUANCE Earnest Son - M 5 y DEV Dolton
SQUANCE William Son - M 3 y DEV Dowland
SQUANCE Percival Son - M 6 m DEV Dowland
*********
In 1901:
Dowland, Devon

Squance Richard Male 33 1868 Farm Labourer Roborough Devon
Squance Ann Female 36 1865 Dolton Devon
Squance Ernest Male 14 1887 Horseman Dolton Devon
Squance William Male 13 1888 Dowland Devon
Squance Percival Male 10 1891 Dowland Devon
Squance Herbert Male 7 1894 Dowland Devon
Squance Beatrice Female 3 1898 Dowland Devon

William Henry married Elizabeth Ann TONKIN 25 Sep 1905 and they had 9 children that I know of. E-mail me off-list and we'll swap notes!
