Hi Robin,
It's very cool to meet you too. Funny, as I was writing my last reply, I was thinking that you & I are from the same generation in the family, but most likey much different in age. Irva was the same age as some of Jim's neices!
I am also grateful for the info on the Ship and the date that they sailed. Mom has told me several times that her Dad used to tell the story of the day they sailed. He said that all he could remember was the sound of his grandmother wailing on the dock. I can imagine watching her large brood of grandchildren leave forever must have been unbearable. I think that Catherine (Frank's Daughter)has a letter that she read me once that was from the old country. A relative telling how they missed the sound of all the little footsteps running by their home!
Actually, my Mom is out in Courtenay right now visiting with Catherine. Betty-Lou lives in Kelowna. I can't wait to tell her all about this! She will be so excited! Her and Auntie Barb(my aunt) are meeting in Van. in a week and a half. They will think this is so neat!
Robert wasn't killed in a hunting accident was he? I remember Uncle Frank telling me a story one time, but he was getting difficult to understand, as he had had many pollups removed from his voice cords and he had a very raspy voice. I really wish that I had recorded all of their stories, because there were many of them.
If you are looking for info. in Scot., I went on-line and got on a Scottish website. They have amazing records. Within 10 minutes of starting with nothing, the church records with my grandpa and his twin's birth record was on my screen! It was amazing. Great Grandpa's signature was on it. I had an official copy sent to me. It was in the Church of Elgin.
Anyway, I am very long winded, so I will wrap this up!
Oh, and I'm not sure if you know, but Great-Grandma & Grandpa Squair are buried in the same cemetry as my Grandparents and several other family members. One time when I was helping Grandma plant flowers, she took me out to the farm. We went in for a beer with the man that owns it now. Frank's name was in the cement in the basement stairwell. I thought it was kind of cool. It was funny, because I always imagined that it would have a much larger kitchen after hearing about all the large amounts of people she fed!
